I just pointed out the basic progressive steps that most folks should have noted along the way as Free Trade took foothold in our country. If you never noted any of these events occurring in your region, maybe ask a neighbour or friend if they did instead... you were obviously too busy working.
The YouTube links that I use are carefully selected as they can then validate my conclusions with the evidence they provide. Their content most often falls into the category of "Real evidence" as it is video footage showing some event actually did occur to avoid the denials otherwise given by opposition to the event. That is always the purpose of the presenting such video. I prefer to offer proof instead of feeding the fantasy.
Stainless yet....someone got lucky there! That is the most expensive garden ever!
Knuckle it would only be the most expensive if I had to buy the stuff. good on you for noticing the less obvious details......
Give a man a gun, and he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank, and he can rob the world.
Lots of truth and thought provoking messages. For instance that bull of his he is paying for to service one or two cows a year, he never mentioned what happens if someone gets seriously hurt by one of those big animals . That would be a huge impact . Also if your bull gets sick you pay through the nose for a vet whereas if your rabbit buck gets sick, it is a far lower loss to put him out of his misery and have a back up. I have seen bull owners who get their beast home only to discover his semen count won't impregnate anything . Animal husbandry is a huge learning curve . Lots to think about . His set up is a job and a half if he has to relocate and no security that any improvements he makes are to his benefit two months down the road since he doesn't own the place.
The sustainability of anything requiring inputs has to be reviewed carefully , few of us exist without outside inputs of goods and services .
Your always going to be balancing the opportunity costs of having more room for beasts and gardens and transport costs to and from your location and security factors .
A plus to peppercorn for being resourceful, it may be expensive materials but who is to say he never salvaged that from adding to a waste stream somewhere at little expense to himself.
But it is good that some neighbor has cows and good that another might have sheep. I agree that rabbits are the most likely choice for the majority. I cannot see the investment in chickens as the costs seem to be high compared to the price of eggs, but I sure hope some neighbor has them so i can still have eggs for breakfast....
This is again where I see that community has such a role to play. How can a single individual expect to cover all that is required, including the vet services? So folks should maybe instead work on community efforts as a more reasonable approach to surviving off grid as this aspect seems far more practical.
So how about then becoming a useful resource for such bad times by setting yourself up to provide a needed service as say the local farmer or vet? Why not work on the solar array and have power for sale? Or grow that garden larger than required and sell produce? How about using those mechanical skills to fix others equipment or such? It isn't hard to find or create a niche that makes you useful in bad times, just some forethought is required. When the time comes, you set out a shingle or whatever to advertise just like the old days. It's those with nothing to offer in bad times that will suffer the most.
I don't see the whole world converting into a state of mass anarchy overnight. Isn't it more logical that the present system would erode as economic pinch occurs and other trade as such as barter replaces the monetary system if it becomes unstable? Crime would rise and neighbors would have to watch out for each other just to counter this threat alone. Most wouldn't bug out as that is too temporary an aspect to consider unless there is no other option. So instead you'd make arrangements with your immediate neighbors who most likely would be in the same boat as you anyways. He may not be prepared anywhere near as you are, but he is at least next door if SHTF.
And to Peppercorn: That stainless rigs is the best as it will never rust so it will look the same 20 years from now and easy on the back. Too bad we all can't have one! 😆
