New Brunswick got it way worse than Nova Scotia but thanks for thinking of us.

Its all the regular preps. Have an independent heat source incase the power goes out which it will. Have enough food to get through an entire winter. Have twice as much firewood as you think you need. There is always next year. Extra snow shovels and some sort of sled. I actually used my snow shoes for the first time. Know how to drain your water pipes at the first sign of power loss so the pipes don't freeze or burst which can do mega damage. Have a dozen extra blankets. You can cocoon in them, not just on top of you but underneath. They can also be hung over windows and doors. Worse case, sleep in a dome tent set up in the house, with a couple blankets over it. The tent will trap some of your escaping body heat. That's why they used to have covered 4 post beds. Have stored water incase your water intake lines freeze. Pellet stoves turned out to be useless. There were pellet shortages and panic

So, plan to get through an entire winter in place....if the snow plows never come...because someday...they wont

Here. I don't recommend this person but he has a video on it and I don't.

I want you all to visually see this. I spent years without reliable heat and spent 1 alberta winter with no heat. Only candles and the occasional use of a Colman lantern for heat. This is how I did it. This is why MrsC5 has put her foot down and said, No More Blankets. Ill still sneak one in if I find a wool blanket for 5$ or less. Speaking of cheap blankets, I get them from thrift stores.

Oh, and hoodies. I still haven't fired the woodstove yet...but my hood is on my head keeping my neck and head warm. Heat the body. Not the room.

Any tips on keeping a drafty apartment warm? I did the shrink wrap thing this past year but didn 't do great. I have black out drapes and want to make it warmer in the winter. Any other thoughts?

Sorry for the delay. Wool blankets hung over the windows help. I built a swing arm so I can hang blankets over the drafty door and it can still swing open. Blankets Blankets Blankets. I also use them to cut off parts of the house that don't need to be fully heated, keeping the heat central. Another trick I have used for small windows is to create a pillow of several layers of bubblewrap. It lets light in and can easily be slipped in or out . Put clear packing tape around the edges to hold the pillows together.

Keep candles. When all else fails, they throw heat and burn off condensation from your breath. Second hand stores are the best place to collect a store of cheap mismatched candles....and find a comfortable cap you can sleep in
