Nice. Good post for new preppers. A realistic summary of events that would likely take place during a pro-longed blackout in my opinion. I caught this a while back. There's also a British version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRes1zks3DM
I thought this one was also excellent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwymCRaIbSU
The acting wasn't that great and the kid was a little annoying, however, the professional perspective provided by the guests/speakers is priceless information.
(SPOILER) Don't want to ruin anything for anyone, however, it's funny how kids screw it up for the preppers (in both instances of the first two links). A good example of why preppers shouldn't publicly advertise what the day and all the more reason to remain anonymous in the public eye.

National geographic ?
Speculation at best.
Those I've talked to in Emergency Management say it has crumbs of reality/truth to it, but would not play out like that at all. Its more entertainment and maybe gives some warning to people to get more prepared..
National Geographic has really gone down hill in recent years and sold out to smut tv in lieu of genuine documentaries/programming....

I would be curious to know then how it would play out ?.
The show reminded me of William Forstchens book "One Second After". The book was supposedly very well researched and was in fact scheduled to be handed out to each member of the US Congress on September 11 2001 at a special hearing event. Unfortunately other events overshadowed this on this day and it was never handed out to Congress. The aim of the book was to warn the US politicians of the dangers and the dependency to function that the electrical grid has on the US society. The major difference between the book and the show was the time period before restoration of society - less than two weeks against a year.
I thought the show gave a pretty good account of what will happen in a situation like that (lack of water, food, no cash, looting etc). But are curious to learn what Emergency Management think will differ from the show and what was reality and what was not.

Crappy acting? Yes. I don't see any awards being handed out any time soon. NatGEO sacrificing quality and entertainment? Yes. Mick Dodge is a great example ( http://www.peninsuladailynews.com/article/20140119/NEWS/301199998/mountain-man-mick-dodge-loves-the-wild-but-isnt-a-wild-man ). This guy is no survivalist. Nor does he 'live' in the woods. NatGEO spins things for entertainment.
However, in this instance with regard the documentaries listed above I disagree.
I don't know who you know at EMO, however, the people I've met from the government in the emergency planning department are hardly preppers. While there is an entertaining spin they do who realistic examples of human behavior during times of desperation. Lying, stealing, deception are all realistic characteristics of people during disasters. What part of any of these documentaries would you (or your EMO friend) consider unrealistic or unlikely? I personally don't agree with every aspect, for example the time frame that every thing occurs in, however, I think it's a little more to reality then you give it credit for.

I agree. Good book but I didn't like the religious spin. Rumor has it that they're making a movie of it.
But are curious to learn what Emergency Management think will differ from the show and what was reality and what was not.
I as well and aside from the unlikely opinion of one EMP rep it will never happen.

Found this video of what a local teacher did during a power outage up here....
Thought this a good chance to show the folks from southern Ontario what it is lie up here in the north. Check out the drive on the winter ice road "from Pikangikum reserve to Red Lake" by clicking on that thread. Likely a part of this province you never knew was there....
