Finally got the doctor to prescribe me some anti biotics yesterday after refusing to leave his office until he did (fever of 102.9 and coughing blood....should'nt have been an arguement really but it was)...i asked about anti biotics from a prepper stand point and he said theres no expiry date as such, they're good for a few years at least if store in a cold dry enviroment...its just theyve never been tested for longevity because theres no need to test for longevity....the industry just keeps up with demand....however, he used to work as a volunteer doctor in Africa. i asked flipantly, did you give them anti biotics when they beg as they cough blood....he said he'd never prescribed AB's over there because they refuse. they use a plant called 'Teem'.....google searchs indicate it actually works as a mild, wide spectrum anti biotic...anyone know anything about it? ive already sourced out seeds...

Hope you're feeing better soon.
I just ordered some of the most highly recommened plants as substitutes for anti-botic and medicinal remedies from Richter's- goldenseal, garlic, echinacea, wild ginger, meadowseet, and ephedra. They also carry opium poppies but they're on back order.

I just got over a case of bronchitis, or trying to anyway. Damn thing is hanging on. Bit of a sore throat. To sooth that a bit I'll let a drop or two of Oregano oil trickle down my throat for a few minutes and chase it with a spoonful of raw honey. Must be raw unpasteurized. This time of year we're short of Vitamin D as well.
To help with fever, strong tea with a couple of spoons of lemon juice and as much raw honey as you need to get it down. Drink a couple of cups as fast as you can manage and get your butt into bed with flannels or long johns and it seems to do a good job of sweating it out.
Humidify the air to keep the mucous loose.
If I'm hungry (I always seem to be when I'm sick) toast some bread, scrape a garlic clove on it(works like a grater) top off with butter.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Dear Carbon, I lived in Kenya during my university years. When I was ill there I was prescribed antibiotics. The first course was not effective and had to be readministered in a stronger, broader spectrum because the bugs there were resistant from over prescription of AB. Eventually, my infection was gone but my gut was destroyed. I might also add that in fact my immune system was suppressed and had to be rebuilt.

The idea of using alternatives to antibiotics is a good thing. Unfortunate, there is a new virus known as Noravirus which is causing all sorts of problems and is headed your way. In the radio program alluded to under "Super Silver" for which I was reminded that it is "illegal" in Canada, Glenn Parnum mentioned the Noravirus and the fact that one of the purposes of Chemtrails were to make people's immune systems more susceptible to pathogens which they may be exposed to. If this is the case then Preppers have to strengthen their immune systems through life style choices and have handy alternatives to antibiotics.

What about vitamin C? 2 to 4 grams in powder form, and don't forget probiotics to rebuild the gut with good bacteria.

As far as Teem goes, I never heard of it, but then I was only in East Africa and South Africa. Is it possible it is called Neem? Please let me know if you need help. I may have some ideas for you. Good luck and God Bless

May I suggest you get a few good books and visit the Burlington Health Food Store. They really know a lot. The best way is to stay healthy and therefore no need for "cures". I haven't had a cold in over 30 years. (now that I said it, I will get sick...Murphy's law)

Everyone has given you the same kind of comments that I would have mentioned except I noticed that no one mentioned a nettie pot.

My wife just brought a 'Nettie Pot' back from India...she told me it was a four hour course on how to use it as part of her yoga training.

Hmmm ... sounds a bit sus!! Are you sure it wasn't some sort of torture device that she brought back? (maybe she heard about your library escapades!)

If that's what your wife told you - go with the flow!! You don't want to argue with her when you're in a vulnerable position!

I have come across Neem oil as an organic pesticide. You spray it on the leaves and it keeps the nasties away but the good bugs don't mind it. It isn't very cheap and I am not sure if there is a shelf life on it but it is worth checking out. I didn't realize that it could be used as an alternative to AB.
