lol you misunderstood its not that he doesnt teach me but he everyone has different knowledge to learn from. He has taught me everything he knows.
Just about anyone can teach you the basics of firearms ownership.
1 safety
2 accurate shooting
The PAL course will teach you the basics of safety. You can learn the basics of marksmanship online. Shoot as much as you can with anything - air rifles, even airsoft will get your proficiency level way up there.
Your restricted endorsement is easy to get but of limited usefulness here. The laws for storage and shooting restricted arms are so tight as to make them almost useless unless you go to a range regularly.
If you're looking for some kind of tactical training that is going to be much more difficult in Canada. I did do a quick search and found schools in Alberta, Sask, and Quebec. They are of course geared to military and law enforcement.
The only gun that is any good for anything is the one you can have with you when you need it.
I think for us preppers, hunting skills are more useful. Tracking, stealth and being comfortable in the woods will serve you better than close quarters battle drills.
Tactical training, if you wanted to do, could be done in a city near you. How about paint ball, I know its not the real thing but you could still train the basics. Just a thought.

That is actually a very good idea ranger! i used to paintball on occasion but it does help train you, it gives you the the sensation of getting shot without actually getting shot, still hurts though and will leave welts and bruises if you don't wear armour. The reason i say its a very good idea is that you will be going up against you average everyday citizen, just like you would most likely be doing in a SHTF scenario. If you have multiple people in your prepping life you could take them paintballing to hone their skills aswell as your own, plus you would also develop how to work as a team, and teamwork is more effective then the best gear on the market! plus you can do indoor paintballing which simulates an urban environment and outdoor paintballing which is woodlands ect. I think i might just go for some more paintballing now! 😎
Again great post ranger!
Well if you guys want to set up something just let me know when your available and how many are coming. I can arrange an afternoon with the local gun club here in Napanee. I'm sure we can have lots of fun and cover a great deal of information as well. There are always PAL and RPAL courses being offered by the gun club usually once a month. I can get you the information however I'm sure there are courses in your community. I am however leaving for a holiday on Aug 7-18th. So this is the only time I'm not available. Feel free to PM me and we can get the ball rolling.
So I have had one couple come out and we all had a great time and gained some experience. If anyone else is interested in getting together to learn about restricted firearms (handguns) feel free to pm me or post.
I think you are doing a great thing there Bigred. No better way to dispel many myths about gun ownership that getting people out firsthand to try.
I am a member of the guelph rod and gun club and I will be doing my first ever idpa match on sept 28th. Can't wait!
Good for you bud. IDPA is so much fun. Best of luck
would be interested in this.. let me old FAC lapse and will be doing the new thing all over again. What kills me is that I have a crap load of firearms training and damn near none of it is applicable to the test...lol.
Cheers,
BOA.
Just remember.... the Boy Scouts have been saying it for years.... Be Prepared!
I am sure the test will give you no problem BOA. Seems mostly common sense from what I remembered so with a bit of a review you will do fine
Bigred613 you've inspired me...
I'll offer up the same except I don't own handguns, only long guns.
I don't hunt much and only recently got my PAL but I'm not new to firearms.
One-on-one sessions only due to gun club rules concerning guests unless my wife has free time at the same time as me (rare) then we could host a couple.
Club is located in Prescott, Ontario.
My schedule is very hectic but I somehow find time for the range a couple times per month.
PM me if interested and maybe we can work something out
One more thing though and I'm sorry but it must be said:
shooting is a lot of fun but I'm a safety guy first, shooter second. Any wanna-be rambos need not apply. I'm pretty easy going but if you start acting like a jack-ass you WILL be asked to take a hike.
trust in yourself
