i have had cheese and butter last for 2 years canned.
i store them in the fridge so they last along time.
have a jar of cheese i canned 4 years ago in the fridge to see how long it lasts in there.
still looks ok but not brave enough to try it.

i take canned butter on camping trips in the summer backpacking no refrigeration needed.

Bring it with you for the meet.... I'm brave enough lol

Grouchyprepper - I've heard of canning butter and also heard it was not recommended for safety reasons. I'm glad you've had good experience. I've looked at ghee in the grocery store - wowzer expensive - but butter isn't cheap either.

Canning cheese? I'd like to see it too 🙂

everything is over the top safety wise with the government. ( and that is ok its smart to be safe)
i would not eat half the stuff the pioneers would eat. (no refrigeration, no water filters) and they did ok
if you follow the info on the vids i posted above and check out others on utube you may find it is ok.

love youtube to learn stuff 🙂

I have seen margarine go moldy if not kept in the fridge or freezer. Someone once told me that there is only one molicule difference between margarine and plastic. 🙂

Ain't that the truth about margarine. It's just a bucket full of chemicals......not worth eating (the flies know better). Shortening or lard would be better....

One molecule, separates margarine from plastic, and one gene separates us from chimpanzees, maybe thats why, some people like to swing so much. 😉

Hi,

I am lactose intolerant as well but seem to tolerate small amount of hard cheeses. I have done cheese at home. Love the process and the result is excellent. Will definitely try waxing my cheese. Thanks for the link and info. Have been prepping for a year and practice making things at home. Don't want to be caught off guard.

and susannah maybe you are lactose intolerant?
Oh yes - I am lactose intolerant!

Have you tried goats milk? Have heard that may who are lactose intolerant have no difficulty with it as it is far closer to human (breast) milk that cows milk is. If you are going to try it I would suggest you find a small goat farmer who milks and get it fresh.

If you are going to get fresh milk from a farmer, just be aware that ideally, you will need to buy part of the goat and the farmer ideally should have a legal milk share program going, otherwise, at least in ontario, what is being recommended is very illigal and that poor farmer can be facing VERY heavy fines.

I get asked all the time for milk or other things that is in fact as a farmer something that is illigal to do, so while its a awesome idea, and I would love to see if made legal, just a reminder that at this time its not!

I use to eat goat cheese, only because it is almost or is, cholesterol free.
