Whether there are or not you will probably never know until shtf
I think they exist but maybe not in the traditional upholding the Constitution`` US way of organised Militia. Probably more like groups working and doing some training together now in preparation for a shtf situation. Should a shtf situation arise my guess is that they will be conducting operations related to their group or militia if we call them that such as securing location and establishing a gathering point and security for a wider group of pre determined people. At that point seriously doubt that kind of activity privately and discreetly conducted will be of interest to any still active military and police units.
Just a couple of thoughts, but in a shtf scenario I believe that a fair bit of Leo's would do like any concerned human being and want to make sure that their own family is safe and secure. Meaning that if you really needed help from a Leo in a shtf situation, you just might be out of luck.
Also, unless something has changed, there is absolutely nothing wrong taking to the streets with an unloaded non restricted firearm (ammo in a pocket/pouch). I am sure one would get picked up by one of their cities finest, but it would be the Leo acting out of ignorance.
So not sure how a group of people taking to the streets with unloaded non restricted firearms would be doing something unlawful.
Now its late, and I could have this all wrong..... These thoughtful posts just got me thinking.
you may not be breaking any laws redlite, but i'm confidant that they would confiscate your firearm in quick fashion. I'm no legal expert but I'm sure carrying a gun around on the streets is frowned upon, loaded or not
A militia is de facto illegal in Canada. There is a law against 'drilling' etc. HOWEVER, it is actually not illegal outright from what I can tell. The way the law reads is that you can gather a group of people and train etc. BUT, as soon as people hear about you, word will make its way up the governmental ladder, and then there will likely be an order for you to essentially cease and desist. It's legal unless 'they' say it's not, and of course they will always say it's not.
That is also the reason you don't see many 'tactical schools' in Canada. They would fall prey to the same laws. The way that 'gun clubs' etc. get around this (if they offer tactical courses) is they make a sport out of them. So while you CAN'T have a tactical school that practices dynamic shooting, offense, defense etc. you CAN have a school that trains for a sport where they put up targets and add up numbers. The other way is if they offer the courses as safety courses, or general firearms handling courses. Any civilian school that actually calls itself a 'tactical school' is walking on very thin ice.
.02 anyways, that's what I have gathered over the past few years.
