Ok I have heard both publicly and by enough PM's that folks are really looking forward to info on the summer get together, I don't want it to close to the other big meet that is taking place this summer in the hunstville area, but folks seem to really be interested in July, so in order to make this work, and as I can't see folks wanting to give up the sunday of the July long weekend, and as I don't want it to get closer to the meet.. the best day does appear to be July 7th, I hope that be providing so much advanced notice for the event that folks will be able to make this work for them!

Larose Forest is 50 kms from ottawa, about an hour from the outer edges of montreal, just ten off the 417 highway, and for those coming from the quebec side, you can also take the ferrycrossing by rockland for a fairly direct route across and over. There is shelter, outdoor bathrooms, and plenty of free public parking, and lots of picnic tables in a public yet private feeling setting. There is no access to drinking or washing water. There are public garbage cans.

July 7th-10am to 3pm Lorose Forest Summer Gathering for the Ottawa Valley and area prepper get together.

Here is the basic's but tweeking might be done and will be annouced.

Potluck Lunch -Please bring a dish that will serve eight to ten folks, that does not require heat or cooling (other then what you can provide yourself), plus drinks and your utensils as required. As some of our members have allergies, please remember to bring a card with what is in your meals, please an thanks.
Water, and hot water for tea will be provided.

While you can just choose to visit the time away if you want to do so, we will have a brief intro for new folks but this is mainly a working meet, (the coffee meets are more for visiting and getting to know each other).

There will be a barter tables, so crack out your canning, soaps, herbs, extra garden plants etc, and come on down.. (we request no vendors at the meet)

When it comes to the canning table, Standard Canning Swap rules and waiver will be in effect and must be signed. We will be using the ticket system.

When it comes to the soap, plant, seeds or herbs barter table, its all about you folks.. set a ticket price on your item, sticky's, pens will be provided and then barter away with each other..

Any and all prepper items are welcome, (other then booze or anything illegal, keep it childfriendly here folks) see if you can trade off a soap for a package of needles..
We hear about it all the time on the boards, that famous list of 100 things that will go fast and we will all need to barter, well lets put that talk into action and keep it friendly and fast, with lots of laughs.

As we have a number of folks that make soaps, and a expressed interest in this area, we will have a making homemade laundry soap demo, as well as making a cold process soap making demo, (anyone involved in the cold process soap making will be required to wear the proper safety gear if they want to get up close, it will be provided at the event for free), might even have someone that could show us how to make homemade pit sticks (hint, hint 🙂

We are going to have a small animal skinning and butchering demo (please note that there will NOT be a kill demo)

We will be having a natural cording demo that will include using fresh rawhide and also spruce root cordage.

There will be a thermal cooker demo for those that stay for the day, it will done first thing in the morning and will be ready for the last snack before folks head out in the afternoon.

There is also going to be a wild plant forage demo, this is a two part demo
Part 1) a table with collected wild plants with local wild forage books, and its a match the plants and figure out the question/answer page that goes with on what is the basic to do with them.
Part 2, is that certain plants will have a color dot and a number by them, that means that if you want to take a hike/walk (bring proper gear and shoes folks) you can head out into the nearby trails and see if you can find that plant in the wild, there will be the correctly colored marker hidden by or under or over the plant, find the marker, turn it over and write down the code and the ones with the most plants found will get a little prize in the end, there is NO collecting of plants in the area or on or off the trails

If anyone else would like to do something for the event, please let me know and we will see if we can fit it in..

Swing by for an hour, or come spend the day, whatever fits your schedule, hang around the tables under the big top and visit, or get hands on, your call..
Please if possable RSVP so I can have a sense of numbers? (that can be public or private PM).

We will once again be using ballons to help be markers on the turning corners and at the event location itself..

Its going to be a grand time folks! Looking forward to seeing old faces and new..

but really, what I would love to see is one or two of those homemade baskets that we saw photos of, but I will leave it up to you, baskets are always good things to have..

In going back over the the 100 things that will go first barter list, I realized some of the things I was going to take to the reuse center are on the list. I will put them aside if anyone is interested. The "main" thing on the list that I am giving away is a box of board games. I also have some sewing stuff.

Will bring some baskets. I hadn't thought of them.

Not sure I will be able to attend. No transportation. I would really like to meet you all and start learning more. However, should there be a coffee clatch prior I would attend. Assuming I can get there by bike or bus. I live in BC - thats Bells Corners (insider joke) in the west end of Ottawa.

Hi Bearscott,

Anyone wanting to consider a car-pool from Bell-corners area.. If so, I recommend considering having a meet and greet in a public place for a quick coffee to make sure that all seems on the up and up, but otherwise, it would be great if anyone could give a helping hand? Hope to see you there, there will be regular bus's running to the waterpark, and I am sure that if you can get there at a set time, that someone can do a pick up run and drop off run..

I should be clear on that, last year they were doing regular bus runs from the city to the water park, you will need to do your own research on if that is happening again this year but the odds are good..

FG

Making homemade felt soap, want to get a idea of how much interest this would be at the barter table?? should I be making one or two of them, or four to six of them? Would folks like little bags of wool to be able to felt your own favorite soap? Let me know what you think?

Does anybody need any empty 1 gallon water jugs or several dozen empty egg cartons? I can bring these to the meet. Let me know here so I can bring them or freecycle them. Thanks

Too bad I can't make it PrepHer - I would love the egg cartons - unless there's someone willing to ferry them to the Huntsville meet 🙂
