I signed up for that last summer or the summer before. The only problem was that there isn't a way to only get alerts for your particular region or area. I ended up getting flooded with alerts for T-Storms and tornado warnings in other parts of Ontario.

**Edit**

Looks like they took T storm warnings and tornado warnings off as of last summer. I guess you can opt in on those specifically. I just use the weather network app for that. It has better local forecasting.

Have you thought about a weather alerting radio? I bought one, at Lee Valley, about 3 years ago. It allows you to receive severe weather alerts in any area. For example,I live in Durham Region. It is set to only alert for threats to this area.
A warning is a beep and a yellow light flashes. A warning sets off a buzzer and a red flashing light. I have mine attached to an old set of computer speakers and set as high as it goes. A couple of years ago we had a sudden tornado alert in the middle of the night. The alarm sounded, I ran to see what was happening and within 3 minutes the entire family was in the basement.

Just a thought.
