I've been wearing glasses for 30 years, since about kindergarten. Glasses suck. For a variety of reasons. I'm blind as a bat and glasses still give you a limited field of view so it interfered with hunting and shooting. My glasses cost about $500 so replacements are pretty rare. Also, if SHTF and you lose your glasses you are pretty screwed.

So I got Lasik eye surgery on Friday March 13th.

The very next day I went back for my checkup and they told me my eyesight was good enough to drive. It's that quick.

It takes about 3 months to heal fully. A week and a half later I'd say I'm at 90% and it improves a little every day.

What I'm saying is that if you 100% rely on glasses like I did, this is not only a life improvement in general but an absolutely fantastic prep.

I will most definitely second that. I got Lasik after 35 years of wearing glasses and it was the best thing I ever did. Fast? I got home and realized I could read the license plate on the car across the road. And I use to put on my glasses to get to the bathroom at night! Broke my glasses once-couldn't drive til I got replacement.
I wear glasses now if I am doing a lot of up close work, but to be able to look out the window to see if someone is walking up the driveway without fumbling for my glasses makes me feel more secure. Optometrists may be in short supply if SHTF.

High five for that, also got mine quite a long while ago.
The best thing is now I can jog and run and jump around without worrying about glasses.

Regret comes last, if it comes early its called registration!

In the end, only fellow preppers truly respects other preppers.
When nothing happens, the world will laugh at you.
When SHTF, what will happen when they found out you got supplies?

Been contemplating the possibility for a while. But no idea if i'll ever have the funds. I've heard fees thrown around as low as $500 per eye (promotions) to 1st hand reports of $12000 for both eyes.

Yowsers!

Can't imagine having that type of spending money... ever.

I am really thrilled for you! The freedom, isn't it wonderful?

My dear husband is the same as you were blind as a bat without his glasses. Technology has come a long way in this area. If I were in the situation I see my husband I wouldn't hesitate to at least look into it. Post op patients are thrilled!

Not everyone is a good candidate for this operation, but if you can help anyone what a life changing gift.

Best wishes!

Bizinga!

This thread got me interested, so i went and got my own information and appraisal.

From Lasik MD (the folks that promote the "From as low as $499 per eye!" deal) I have 4 options of various technology and treatments ranging from $2800 with 5 yr vision plan to $4300 for lifetime vision plan.

That's a far fricken cry from $500 per eye! lol I'm actually a little miffed by the prices, considering they called me the ideal candidate. No astigmatisms, perfect cornea thickness, etc.

I'll probably have to pass. With my benefit plans i spend $0.00 per year on my glasses.

I had something simular, no problems but a big price tag. Didn't get that at all. My prescription has been pretty close for the last few years, so I make sure to buy a new pair of glasses every year on goggles4u (cheap and good) and I put my old pair away in my preps. Have one in my bug out bag and one in my house storage.

I did exactly the same thing. Last newest pair in my BOB and the older ones in my place (aka junk drawer). The wifey also has her older pairs just in case, just all in one place (she is not a Prepper).

Ironically if i did get the surgery i'd still have to wear glasses as they can only correct 1 problem...as i wear bi focals i was told i'd have to chose if i want to see close up or distance and i'd still have to wear glasses to see which ever one i did not chose@

If I can't hunt & fish in heaven then I don't want to go!
