This happens when you eat the same foods over and over. The idea is to have a variety in your diet so this does not happen.
Do you have enough variety in your preps or a store of spices to make a difference?
Just adding a few simple "extras" to your food preps can make a difference.

Now my real question is, once a person has food fatigue how the heck do you get rid of it? Just the addition of a new food does not seem to bring back an appetite.

I find that the change in the weather from cold winter to warm summer triggers in a change of the way I prepare/cook my food.....even if it's the same old potatoes, etc...
But you are right: spices can add alot to food.

Hi Old School,

I honestly don't have a answer that will help on this one, when I did the eat out my pantry only March Challange, I can honestly say that I got tired of lamb, I cooked lamb in different ways, different styles, different spices, and only two things helped.. a) butcher a small critter and have something meat wise other then lamb, and cure it, to make lamb ham, which had enough of a different taste to get around it.

Even my hubby was surprised at the amount of times, I would just push the food around the plate and say.. ehh, just don't want it.. it was a bit startling to me, I had the food, I had all the little extra's and I still got tired of having the same thing over and over again, I can say this, when I had worked a full day and was truly hungry, I eat it just fine but give me a day where I was so-so on the hungry side and I was willing to walk away from it.

I know that it made a difference that I was lacking fresh foods to go with, everything was dried, or canned, along with a few frozen things, When I did this last year, I figure out the weak spots in the pantry, this year, the weak spots were in our wanting to eat it, not that we didn't have it..

Thank you both

Farmgal, did you get to the point where you didn't even want to cook it?

No, cooked it as Hubby was still happily chowing down, but I got to the point that I would pull the meat out of the dish or was taking the time to trim all the fat off so that it didn't have the lamb taste as much (which is mainly in the fat). Once I had a couple good feeds of a different meat, I was better about it, it is worth pointing out that it was already our main meat for the last five months before I started the March Challange. Of course that is why I do that challange in March, it is truly the "lean" month, you have eaten most of your stored goods, its to soon for much if any fresh food in our cold canadian winters, its a good time to test your pantry skills.

I have been bodybuilding for years and have competed in a few bodybuilding shows and let me tell you the diet that goes along with the training is the hardest thing. When I'm pre competition i tend to eat the same foods all the time they are very bland and low in carbs. For my prepping supplies I intend on having a variety of different meals and foods high in carbohydrates as well as candy I plan on stocking up on a small supply of candy as well or foods high in sugar. Its amazing how the repeat of basic foods can effect brain chemistry. In a disaster situation you don't want to be getting the blues and I found this was my biggest issue when dieting i would get very depressed and even cry without reason (hormonal). This is the last thing you would need to deal with in a real disaster.

You're exactly right Bigred613 - an emergency/disaster situation is no time to be 'food fatigued'! I guess I'm abit of a 'creature of habit' in that I have the same thing for breakfast every day, but vary lunch between 6 or 7 choices, and have kinda 'seasonal' variations for supper. Like in the winter, I tend to eat more roasted meats with potatoes, veggies, gravy or stews or chili or pasta = all homemade with my stored foods. However, in the warmer months, I bbq or cook over an outdoor fire , veggies/meat and eat fresh/raw from the garden.....
BUT I'm alway looking for sustainable variation in cooking food that I could apply to a SHTF situation!
