If water tastes like plastic then it's probably not the best thing to drink. Plastics made with HDPE (common in most water containers) have been known to leech a chemical known as 'Bisphenol A'.

Yep, 2l pop bottles are tougher and made to store acidy stuff. Usually better quality than water bottles. Personally I use 5 gal stainless steel Cornelius kegs I bought years ago for $20 each but I use em for transporting water from the sweet water at the cottage. Pretty hard to find these days for less than $50. Try E-bay.
OMG.. they want over $100 these days .....robbery I tell you. Use pop bottles.
