Thanks Gravlore...it is paradise. We were very lucky to come across it. Lots of trees on both sides of the river and it's a very remote location. We're the last drive on a dead end dirt road. The property is almost 100 acres in a menonite farming community. Are you close by?

It sounds like a good balance. Private, off the beaten track, fresh water. A river means fish and many other things. Good call.

No I am in Saskatchewan trolling the Ontario site. Get in with those Mennonites if you can, they make good borscht. We got the hutterites here. Although my community is about 225 and most are farmers. I LOVVVVVVVE not having a city life now. It is so great not having Harley owners rapping their engines outside my window at 3am. Nothing but the sound of loons and crickets.

We are so looking forward to getting away from the city too...and I don't think I've every tried borscht:)

Nothing, anywhere in the whole world , is as soothing as the sound of Loons at night. Just my opinion.

Sounds great but the prepping community seems sketchy about one another. From reading other posts it seems most have a problem going for a coffee that is 20 minutes away or are just scared about who they will meet. Jobs, home and family obligations often take priority now so meet ups are hard. I personally LOVE building things and plan on building my parents a 12X32' home on my land. Nothing fancy, but this thread made me think to build a few extra buildings on the base of my land and use it for people who need it if the time comes. I do not give to church or charities but I think my charity will be for the future hard times if it comes. Everyone needs help sometime in life. Mind you these cabins would be built a few years from now.

I usually check out this website daily and have watched the different threads that go on. I am in Cambridge so it would be a short drive for me to get to Waterloo. I do have reservations about going to a bug out site. I have family that does not believe in prepping (including 5 grandchildren) that I feel I would need to help. Unless the land was own outright and there was a bunker what is the reason to leave where I am now? I would however be willing to meet with anyone to discuss alternative plans. We also own an RV so short term lodging is taken care of. My brother, my husband and I am prepping food and water. My brother is also looking for land.

I received a message yesterday from a member name 2013orbust asking for a meeting when I tried to reply it told me that this member did not exist. Can someone tell me what I did wrong or is this just someone playing games.

Must have been a glitch or human error, I have checked the account and was able to send a test msg.
Everything seems OK.

Hello everyone,
My boyfriend and I take possession of a large rental, farm property 1 hour north of Waterloo, Ontario, on July 1. The property has a river running through it and a spring fed pond... great area for hunting as well. We would have preferred to buy, but beggars can't be choosers. We wanted somewhere to go in case the SHTF TOMORROW! Anyone in our area that doesn't have a place to bug out to....lets talk. We know there is safety in numbers and want to build a small community of like minded persons who will watch each others backs when it all goes down.

Hello! I am in the Waterloo area, and would like to hear about your experiences with this. Please contact me...

In reality, to get away from the "golden horde" you would want to have A retreat at least more than 1 tank of gas away. If you have a retreat less than a tank of gas from the nearest major metropolitan area you will be swarmed with starving bands of ppl. But if it is more than a full tank of gas than the swarm will be decimated by walking and having to live in the elements after their car dies.

Been looking online for affordable land. Up north near Timmins seems decently priced. I've seen 25+ acres going for anywhere from 15-25k. Still expensive for most of us but better priced than around big cities (70k for 1/2 an acre?!)

Its a good distance from the US border and the TO/Kingston/Ottawa stretch so avoiding the "hoarde" would be easier. Of course the downside is finding the time to drive up there regularly to keep a basic setup on "standby"

trust in yourself
