This is true... but you also have to take into account home defence. The golden horde so to speak will be less inclined to visit your doorstep if they know you are prepared and willing to defend it. I would tend to lean more towards the 3/4 mark in gas on the traveling.. if it takes you 3/4 of a tank to get there that still leaves the majority of people without enough gas to get back... only the prepared few will bring extra fuel with them.

People here seem to think they will have a clear path to their land in the boonies AFTER shtf. If you leave before things get bad then you may not run into communities that block all roads to avoid the "hoard" from infiltrating the area and beyond. Better have 3-4X the gas you need since you may be backtracking or trying to find an alternate route or just head back to where you came from.

Bring your land titles.

Actually not a bad idea, if it were to get Mad Max style. If there were a group retreat for people on here may I suggest a common logo e-mailed to each member in the community so they can print it off and tape it to their windows when driving. It would be like an ID for people entering "the danger zone".

I like the idea of moving north, Timmins area is great. I have hunted the area when I was a lot younger and know the area faily weel.
As with most poeple cost keep getting inthe way, if some one has the ability to purchase and is willing to have some help with preparing the area for the events coming, in exchangfe for a spot. I live in central Ontario and can drive to timmins area., What about Sudbury? closer?

As a group , we might surprisingly be able to accumulate the funds needed to purchase land . A thousand dollars from a hundred people is not as daunting a task . Find a way to attain that money or remain in the muck . Im in .

Agreed... a much smaller group would make something like this more likely to happen. 15-20 people tops would be a reasonable number and also provide enough labour and skills in a variety areas. This would also make for a good number of people should defending ever come into play... a well organized small group can accomplish amazing feats. This has been proven time and time again throughout history.

the number i used was to emphasize that more people raises more money , seeing that raising funds is a challenge that alot of people are facing . the number can be 10 ,20,30 ,whatever. dont be pessimistic just for the sake of it .
