Hello from near London. This is my first joined forum. I'm tired of not having anyone to discuss prepper issues with. Everyone around me calls me names and says I want to be a "pioneer". Because I can and store food. I'm glad to be a part of this community!!!!

Welcome to the forum Sarah & Carolyn. I hope you take a look around and make some new friends...no one will call you names here cause we're all preppers. And if they do, just let me know...I'll take care of 'em fer ya! Don't forget about the national forum and feel free to browse the main blog at http://www.canadianpreppersnetwork.com/

I need to figure out how to get notifications on this board 🙂

Denob - we had 6 chickens when we lived in town for a year. I learned a lot but they really are so easy to keep and the fear of doing something "wrong" is the biggest problem you will have 🙂 Easy as pie and very forgiving even if your coop isn't perfect. We have never heated the coop and they did just fine. In town they were in a converted playhouse with no insulation and now we have a barn but again no heating during the winter except for the water bowls in the winter because their bowls kept freezing. As long as you leave them a deep layer of shavings and there are more than 2 chickens in the coop - body heat helps. We had nights of -40. (I did worry abit about them but they were fine) We have alot more chickens now - somewhere around 80 - 37 are still chicks and another batch in a borrowed incubator. I am having FUN! The eggs taste amazing and the entertainment value of watching chickens peck and scratch outside your kitchen window can not be over rated 🙂

In two weeks we'll have been on the farm for a year...I can hardly believe it! There's so much to do and life is good.
Anita

Notifications,
there are three ways,
1st in your profile you can click on a tab that sends a notification every time someone else posts in anything you have posted to or started.
2n at the bottom of each topic your interested in, click subscribe, look down to the left, way down, yes there it is 🙂
3rd you can subscribe to each forum you are interested in. Now this will tell you whenever someone starts a new comment/thread but not when someone posts in something that is already there.

Oh Thankyou!! Every board is a little different and I will admit to visiting somewhere and forgetting to go back because I can't find it or I forget what I said 🙂 😆

All bookmarks are now in place and notifications are set!

Hello, from the Belleville area. Its nice to finally find a relatively local group of survivalists that aren't all over prepared Americans living in Mountian areas.

Hi all. I'm over west of Ottawa. Was prepping before I new what it was. I so want to down side and get off grid. Have raised pigs, turkeys, chickens over the years and 1/2 acre organic garden back when we did all the farmers markets, to old for that now. just supplying our self's now. Working to supply family with sustainable life style. Give extra to local food bank, I don't know how people are living theses days. Feeling shit is already hitting the fan, barley can go shopping with out freaking out at the cost of stuff. Nice to meet you all, cheers Beth

Hello Beav 🙂
Welcome and yes it is nice to find other Canadians.
'
you want canned food, well the best places are probably the sales at every grocery store or Costco. Another might be the Great Canadian Warehouse Club (no membership but watch prices closely) You also need to look at the expiration dates, some are on sale for a very good reason.

I am in Durham Region, where are you ?

Well, really...! Imagine my surprise finding a forum for honest to goodness Ontario Preppers, and a pleasant surprise it is 8-). Always wondered about my habit to store extra food, have alternate heating sources in my living space, keeping an emergency supply of lighting capabilities and it all started wayyyy back in Cub Scouts...I found my first 'survival kit' from my cub scout days back in late 60's...too funny and realized it could fit into my updated version once I got rid of the old bandaids, out-dated water purification tabs and leaky tube of something. Currently in college, have done some drastic but necessary downsizing of collections and such. Looking forward to next years gardening as we have the space now, getting in some long neglected winter camping and participating in the forums.

Take 'er easy eh. Jeff.

Hello from just outside of Brockville, ON.

Lifelong interest in survival related information (including martial arts-I run a 'garage club' training in a wide variety of physical defensive skills, unarmed and armed.)

My preparations are admittedly inadequate at the moment but a work in progress.
