Wife wants to buy a fifth wheel trailer to going travelling Cnanada/ North America. Went looking at them yesterday and a cool way to travel, although expensive. What do you think of using them for bugging out?

IMO not a very good choice. If you had it set at a location them it could work. A lot to be hauling about the countryside and you have to stick to roads. Difficult to manouver and once you have it loaded you are stuck defending it or losing everything. No balistic integrity and in cold weather it is a condensation trap. Would require multiple adaptations for full time use that would make it less desireable for vacationing. Just some things to consider.

yeah, i was thinking the same way, however, if its on the driveway anyways and i do have to bug out, be an idea to keep it stocked. keep basic supplies with me in the truck (water, food, firearms) and if i needed to leave the trailer it takes 3 secound to unhook a fifth wheel.

True. Redundancy is a good mentality to have in this. Just a little expensive and just don't fall into the trap that the trailer IS the plan.

staying in the house is the plan....tsunami would have to be knocking on the back door before i leave.

Nodding in agreement. I think that is what most have in mind. As much as there is talk of bugging out it is near impossible for most of us to have the resources in place to survive long term in a secondary location. We fort up, stock up and hope it is good enough. The idea of bugging out is a last resort as opposed to a plan. It comes down to risk assessment and planning for eventualities as much as possible.

Buying one to travel on the cheap in your own style is a great idea. Buying one for unlikely need of bugging out is a waste. Live your life and plan for the likely events. If you have stuff that will do double duty, that is prepping at it's finest
