It was great meeting everyone on the weekend - thank you Farmgal for organizing the event. Being my first time at a prepper event, I was happy to see that it wasn't about a zombie apocalypse, but about useful topics that can improve daily life. This group certainly has a lot of experience in being self reliant, i'm definitely even more motivated now to get going on more preps.

Up to this point, my own prepping has been focused around buying stuff - the in-home convenience store so to speak, which is fine, but darn, I didn't know making your own stuff smelled and tasted so good. I'm all set with the homemade soap, deodorant, and canned goods I got - now I just have to practice making some myself. I haven't got a canner yet, but I'm looking, that's my next step, so I'd definitely be interested in that canning day, and a soap making demo would be an awesome bonus.

Thanks again, I look forward to the next get-together.

So glad you enjoyed the meet, and I will put you down on the list for the canning/ soap making session and look forward to seeing you at the meets in the future!

So folks,

Looking ahead, do we want another day meet in sept (something along the lines of what we had this time, canning swap, garden products swap, potluck and a afternoon of visiting, along with a few other things as they come up)

Or do we want to have a fall lunch meet in Ottawa, last year we have the spring and fall meets in Ottawa, with the summer meet in the forest?

I would like to get a feel for what the group would like for the fall meet..

I would love to find a place perhaps closer to Kingston? say an hour from cornwall, an hour from Ottawa and a hour an half from Kingston? Needs to be for free, needs to have a covered shelter with tables ideally but we can all bring our own chairs if needed..

or the forest is always excellent, last fall's meet was on the south end, this springs meet was on the Kanata end, the summer meet in the lorose, which is a half way point between Ottawa and montreal.. It would be nice to try and move the fall event over an hour, if there are interested folks on that side of the otttawa area?

So lets hear it folks! What are you interested in?

I so want to go but if mom is still "here" then I wont be able to.

If you pick a date I can ask my boss if I will get vacation days to be able to go.

I'd be willing to travel an hour for a meet, the format for this meet at Larose was great. Hopefully I will have some canned goods of my own to swap by then 😀 . I think it would be great if whoever is planning on attending the next meet and wants to participate in bartering / canning swap would post on the forum what they are bringing, and what they need - that way if we have something someone needs we can bring it. Just a suggestion ... it shouldn't be complicated either.

Thanks for the feedback dave, I have no issues at the idea of folks sharing what the would hope to see at the swaps, then folks can choose to see if they can bring this or that to the table.. I think the key if we want to make it regular event at the meets is that folks make a smaller give jar or a pint of this or that.

We will keep folks posted as information flows once we had a new date, I will start a new thread with date and location..

As usual, I would really like to attend, but I have no clue if I am free that day or not regardless of which day it is. I will monitor the thread and hope for the best.

I seemed to have missed these posts. I am more than interested in a soap making day. Canning as well would be great. Just let me know, where and when and what you need us to bring or do.

Also there was some mention of another meet in September. I would love to do this as well. Now that I know the format, I will be more prepared next time.

Nope, Sept is so not going to work, but we are ready to set a Nov date, Hope to the Sunday's on the first two weekends of Nov or maybe the last weekend of Oct?

Unless someone else want to step in and do the meeting? In which case, Mid Sept to Mid Oct is open..

Talk to me folks, planning a brunch get together an visit, any chance we want to look at cornwall? or ?? for the meet.. Do we want the south end, the West end or the East end of Ottawa? Do we in fact want to bring it over the river onto the quebec side?

September is too soon and too busy for me, so Oct/Nov would be best. I would love to have it on the other side of the river but I think it makes more sense to accommodate the majority. I would be willing to travel to Cornwall, but of course, would prefer closer to Ottawa. Whatever the majority decides is fine with me.

I agree that September is turning out WAY too busy for me too.
October would be better, and November is hit and miss, depending on weather.
We get snow here anytime after Oct.31, so it will be a day to day evaluation.
