Hi all ,

WAY back when, I made a post requesting info. on finding gask masks. I didn't have much luck in sourcing anything locally. Everything was obsolete, or no warranty, etc. the reason I ask is that there is a chemical plant in the immediate vicinity of our town, and it's had a couple spills and an actual airborn release. After tornado's/weather, this is the next most common emergency we would probably face. (Things like fire, crime, etc. aside)

The best I could find was this website:
http://approvedgasmasks.com/

It's in the states though. Great for gas masks, other protective clothing/equipment....but...is there anything in Ontario or Canada? I have to believe that there is, i'm just not savvy enough to find it on the net. I"m prepared to buy from these guys, but would really appreciate any direction someone here may have that would be a quicker/cheaper and just as good route.

Thanks.

Don't know if this will be of a use to you as we get these in Australian Hardware stores - should also be able to get these in garden centres as well.
We can buy a respirator that covers the mouth and nose and you then add the appropriate cartridge - we have cartridges rated for 'Dust, Chemical And Asbestos' just to name a couple.
If you ask them they should be able to order you in one that (these are the ones I've seen) cover all the face.
I hope it gives you some options for thinking outside the square for a solution.

(You could also contact dive shops to see if they have any emergency breathing gear, and any companies that supply safety or fire equipment. You never know you might stumble on something this way).

I'm old, tired and crotchety - what's your excuse???

If you go to a safety supply store you can order them, they cost about $160+ for the full face mask with Eye shield. The other masks that are good up to stage 3 cost about $60ish can be bought from same place or any ICI paints or even Benjamin Moore.

I did have a link for First Responders, though I seem to have lost it now, contact ICRCC and ask him if he knows of any first responder suppliers that will source to non members.
just a thought.

Thanks guys for the great ideas. I've actually been into Acklands Granger, and believe it or not, when you get into the full masks with the rated filters I'm looking for...they are actually more expensive than going with military equipment. lol. If I had it to do over again, I'd get into the safety equipment racket! 🙂
Just a half mask with two filters for radionuclides (sp!), and gases, etc. is closing in on 200 bucks! Wowzers!

Didn't think of checking dive shops...lord knows where I've put my PADI certification though..havn't used that in a few years! lol.
