If you absolutely had to bug out......
Where would you go?.......if you didnt have family with a farm, or able to buy a piece of land, or go to a friends house.
What I am looking for is for creative ideas for people that have no $$ or family to help and feel that they absolutely have to bug out.
Any ideas?
Where to go ??? The eternal question
I am moveing out of London in the next few days for a small northern town between Sudbury and North Bay
Prepping begins in ernest once I arrive I am good for about 60 days right now except for bulk stuff ie: TP and water do not want to move the extra bulk or weight
The smaller town allows for more time before it becomes necesarry to bug out as apposed to the crazies trying to get out of the big cities
I will have food and fuel caches I can get to by foot or canoe ready within days of arrival
14 years in the military and 8 packin horses in the rockies has left me more comfortable in the bush than the city any way
As long as I have a tin billy and a few pounds of coffee or shotgun tea its always a good day
I live a verrry solitary life as it is, so spending time in the bush alone is not a problem either
Bush base for me will be awkward for others to get to so people do not just bump into me.
They will be within a days foot travel to town where I can get info if the situation requires
I will need to study up more on medicinal and edibles from the bush but have time for that winter is comeing and hope we have some snow this year
As I have said before I do not worry about the root cause be it emp, cme, economic colapse or something as small as a power outage
I prep to avoid the human factor, I believe men are basically good but they can do bad things when society breaks down
I have seen what civil unrest can do in other countries dureing my miltary career and would hate to see it here without being prepared
Would I lke to be part of a prepper community, SURE I WOULD, who wouldn't
Like it has been said by many its hard to find a few people or a bunch to fit together a trusting group with the same morals and ethics as myself
Especially when I am trying to force it because they are in a geographic area or like minded
Its nice to start and meet people here to start to build relations and maybe before the SHTF we can work something out though
It is one of my fondest wishes but untill then for me its cache cache cache
You may break into my house but you won't get more than a couple wekks of my prepps
To all be safe and keep preppin my coffe pots singin gotta go
good post....but I want to clarify....you would bug out on crown land or a large unclaimed parcel of land if need be?...
bugging out with no $ before hand. Sounds like u need a place on crown land that is full of fuel (wood) food animals, both small and large and maybe even fish if you find a good spot. I like to hide out in pine tree's, it's hard to find people in them, they block out the light, and make awesome shelters under neat. With a small wood frame shelter you can use pine tree branches to make a fairly water tight roof. A small fire and covering it with snow in the winter should also do. It's low tec and not all that comfortable but it will help you survive. In this case have in your bob for sure, fishing hooks and filleting knife and sharpener, rope, flint and steel, first aid kit, snare wire in abundance, a few leg hold traps, metal cooking stuff (bowls, cups ect as long as it's metal) hand soap, a small axe, hand crank radio, water tabs, good skinning knife and a few good sleeping bags the more the better but gotta remember you may need to walk a long ways with it on. It's a personnel choice where to go and what is perfect for you, this is just what I am comfortable doing if needs be. Hope this helped you a little.
Never underestimate the power of free! If someone has deemed something valueless, yet U see value in it; Then you've already made a profit and savings!
another good post coinzero and you have pretty much nailed my bugout kit to a tee!!!....only thing is I have a low profile tent that is camo'd as well which will help...
Ive bugged out in June and helped a fella in muskoka who turned out to be a flake and very dishonest. So Ive tried to get another group but the big problem is what are you prepping for??If you dont meet like minded people who are preparing for the same thing at the same level of seriousness your going to have a hard time. Most people are tied to the matrix(theyre homes ,jobs or whatever and wont make it out.)Owning land is not going to be an issue as "They" will take it from you and your non prepping neighbors who think your nuts will be more then happy to turn you in.Oh btw Im a hunter and survivalist plus Ive studied various martial arts for 30+ years and have been awake to the lizards and NWO for 12 years. There is no way that any prepper has enough water. You will not be able to filter the chemtrails out of your water /food and so each and every one of us is full of chemicals that can be detected from satelites(no hiding anywhere)
You need a van and be able to move but from the bottom of my heart I believe its not living that matters ,its how your living.Winter is almost here and theres no way you;ll be able to feed yourself by hunting alone.Theres a million logging roads on crown land and if you know of any caves that might be a good place but Im thinking EMP or virus and if an emp happens all the nuclear plants go byby and we;re all FUBARed and if your not with very strong (mentally and physically and spiritually)people they will be freaking out when everyone starts dieing and they will make a mistake that kills you as well.
Oh and for all you gun guys,"They know who you are and they will come and take your guns first thing" and anyone who has a gun illegally will just be shot as a criminal.Study what happened just before the nazis came to power and multiply that by a thousand.
So my advice to all of you is make peace with yourselves and follow your heart.Be true to yourself and rely on yourself and what you know ,not on what you have...
i can't state this enough, if you leave your home and preps. . . and you don't have a place to go. . . you're screwed.
we prep! we've prepped our house so we can't be forced off (short of a large group, or an army. . .) or something that takes the house from us (fire/water/wind). but we can plan to fight fire, we can bury food/gear to protect from all of the above.
we have trucks and trailers to move a lot of gear to a safe place. . .
if i leave, i have a destination, i have common maps, comms, and we have codes to says "i'm here, i need help". we also have a code book. . . (yes codes are illegal on HAM bands now. . . if we are using them, the law isn't likely going to be worried either)
plan, prep, practice and have back up plans. . .
if all those fall apart, i'd go to the woods, and i'd do my best until something better comes up. . . when i found an empty house, or a group in need of my skills, i'd work for food etc.
living in the woods is not a viable option for 99.9% of people for more then a short while in Ontario. . .
if i had my gear and no where to go, i might take over a mall or apartment complex 🙂 worked in 28 weeks later, day of the dead, and many other zombie films 😀 lol

Entropy wrote "I can't state this enough, if you leave your home and preps. . . and you don't have a place to go. . . you're screwed." I absolutely agree If you bug out and do not have a BOL plus the supplies to sustain you once you reach it you are in really, truly screwed. If you thought you had a pan you don't! Your only salvation would be to be taken in by some benevolent group, which is highly unlikely. If you are a practiced survivalist then it is a different situation but very few of us are.
Not everyone preps to the same level. For many to be able to ride out a month at home is the goal. If you work towards that and reach a point that you have everything that you need your plan is complete. What's more it is a sound plan.
The 72 hour emergency kit which all government suggest is for one of two situations. Either bug on or go to a prescribed evacuation centre provided by the government. If this is your goal and you have a kit for everyone in your family (plus pets) your plan is complete and again it is a sound plan.
Many, if not all, of us here strive for a better plan and to be able to sustain our families for a longer period of time. The important thing is to have a plan. A plan that is workable and obtainable. Once you complete your plans practice, practice, practice!
There is vast difference in having a goal and having a plan. I have a goal but until I reach that goal I have a plan. It is a workable plan and I practice it. Many of us want to have plans, stores and equipment to survive any possible situation no matter what. This is unrealistic as our circumstances dictate the level to which we can prepare. We have to be both practical and realistic. Keep in mind the four pillars of prepping; shelter, water, food and security. Your plan has to address each one of these components fully and completely for the duration of your plan. The 72 hour and one month plans mentioned above do exactly this. They are excellent plans as far as they go. If you plan to bug out you need many, many resources to fulfil the four components completely. Unfortunately these recourses are not available to the vast majority of preppers.
Unless your home or apartment is compromised by fire, flood or contamination you are immeasurably better off staying where you are. Unless you have the resources forget bugging out and get to know your neighbours. In a SHTF situation they will be your best hope for survival. Build this into your plan and you will have a sound plan.
I can only add one point to this disscussion. If/when there is a power outage, elevators will not work... If there are elderly or diabled that live in a highrise building, it would be better for them to be moved to a shelter unless they have someone there that can take care of them. If you live above the 5th or 6th, your better off in a shelter. If you dont believe me, try lugging 5 gallons of water up past 3 flights of stairs and tell me how you would feel after 7 flights. Any one that depend on electrical power to survive, go to a shelter, and also remember this, how long would it take for emergency services to get to your residence if you live on the 14th floor. How long before you could contact them if you needed them. Make plans, and have a Plan B, just in case.
"We 'Prep.' to live after a downfall, Not just to survive."

very good point, if i was on a high floor, i'd have a long rope and a pully system to pull it all up 🙂 every dark cloud has a work around. . . think out side of the box, or as one of my mentors use to say "what is this box everyone is talking about" lol sometimes there is no box, survival is one of those boxless 'games'.
ICRCC: i once did a early Feb bug out to my buddy's house. the goal was to test my gear in the winter. sure there was a bed insdie for me, but me and my dog slept in the tent. we had an over shelter, heaters, DC power, computer, hot water for dishes and shower. . .(yes outside shower in Feb -29 at night lol) well the water heater broke, my water froze even with the measure i had.) it took a truck and specially built trailer (built from scatch to my design) to carry all my food/water/fuel/gear) everything loaded up, i didn't have enough!!!!! (i did, but not for more then a week, and not with the whole family 2 adults, 2 dogs at the time, 5 dogs now) we now have a canyon, ram, "small bug out" trailer and a large trailer. . . we might get enough on it for a number of months. . .
of course our bug out plan does not include long term sleeping in tents in the winter, but that wasthe worse case. . .
there were a lot of unexpected draw backs, and in the end it was a LONG HARD week. as much as i love winter camping, i was always worried about my dog, waking every hour to check on him. the "working" alone, the night checks, and the cold, i had NO desire to eat, i was never cold, (good gear) but i was very tired all the time!
a plan not tested is nothing!
great thread. . .

Done some winter camping off horse back. I would go for two weeks or more with whats in my saddle bags and bed role. With improvised shelters and caches from summer horse training in the same areas. Just up and go no real preplanning whenever the town was shrinking to much around me or I got to bored. Theres enough daylite hours to prepare for the nites and find feed for the horses.Snow baths and rock sauna a bit chilly but as long as ya got dry socks I like it.

i've gone with backpack and sled, it was much easier . . . camp was fun to set up, i was more then warm. it was ruffin' it, but it was the goal of the camping trip. however, my mock bug out was to keep things at a higher level. survival shouldn't be a camping trip. . . and camping is for fun.
if things go bad, i believe maintaining a high level of nutrition, hygiene, security and normalcy (none of which will come without a lot of work) . . . if this isn't done, then there are less reasons to want to survive.
in my test, the cold, the tireness lead me to shut down some of those drives, i was content to sit with my dog, not eat, not maintain a better routine, there were dirty dishes at times, my hygiene was baby wipes alcohol foam. i think during a SHTF, you'll have enough duty time, and your down time needs to be in some what comfort. noise, light, and smell disaplines will be hard enough, a comfortable sleep, good food and a hot shower shouldn't limit your expereince. frozen baby wipes, and alcohol hand foam keeps you clean, but i stick to my believe in down time.

It worries me when people are talking going to try to survive in Nor. Ont. in the bush half prepared. It is not enough to read about people that survived or go and try it for few days.Think of the worst scenario.Snow storm for three or four days temp. _25to -3o C.When it is over 3 yo 4 ft of snow very very hard to walk in snow shoes in the underbrush.Impossible to walk without snow shoes.Where is the fire wood ?where are the animals you hope to hunt? In the books we read only about people that survived not the ones that didn't live to tel the story. Always be ready for the worst scenario. It is not as romantic as some people see it.Just my way of thinking after 20 years spend deep in the bush in nice warm house.
Henry
Henry you hit the nail right on the head. Even if it were not a worst case scenario most people would not make it past the first night. Despite what many think the bush is not a romantic place, for the unprepared it is dangerous and deadly place. In the summer it would be hard enough and the flies alone would drive most to the point of distraction. In the winter it is almost impossible except for the exceptionally few highly trained, prepared, and fit individuals. For those of you who have not tried living in the bush for an extended period of time in the summer and in the winter please do not make bugging out to the bush part of your plan. If you do you are only planning you and your families termination. Explore the alternatives.
Under normal conditions in life you could be "right or wrong" in extreme situation you are "right or DEADLY wrong"
Henry.
