Well, there's lots of Crown Land up north. And if you can "scout" a good spot now, you'll know where there are little towns or villages, etc. where you could buy or trade. You might have to travel a ways to get between the town and your camp, but then again our ancestors had trade routes, who's to say we can't go back to that?

I've always dreamed about getting some land up north and having a small homestead-type farm, with access to hunting, fishing, and fresh water & resources, and if possible, independence from utilities like power etc. In a few years, I'll be out of school and hopefully can make it happen. Being in the Niagara Region, even though we have a farm, it is still very close by to many cities, large and small, where fleeing civilian would pour out. Plus, I can still see the CN Tower from my horse's paddock, meaning any sort of a terrorist attack could affect me, along with several chemical plants nearby.

Hello RachelM
Good question. Travelling back in the old days was not all that safe and I would bet that it would be really unwise to do that at the beginning of SHTF. If it was a "doomsday" event that happened, until the worst was over I doubt it would be safe to leave your location.

Start now working towards your dream. Its a long road with many things to learn. There are a few things that I learned in the last little while that I was surprised about. The mainly was one about building your own place and living off the grid. If you buy land in certain areas, they still make you pay to have hydro poles & hydro line run to your "house" even if you want to live off the grid.

Keep asking questions. Keep in mind that some of the people on here are very passionate about their beliefs and do not always come across in the manner (at least I hope) that they intented.

cheers

I am talking about situation where you are stuck in your bug -out structure for weeks or many month because of biological, chemical or similar disasters . That what you prepper for. When you talking about traveling and trading I call it back to normal. It is different in the war when people just killing each other because of hate.We are talking survival. We are talking where people stop living and start existing only.Maybe we are talking of life when you shoot first and ask question later. When the dust settle we can start getting together dance around fire and yahoo. But until it is SURVIVAL.When you witness somebody hurting or killing your family you stop trusting strangers.Be ready for disaster and long time effects. You really think that anybody will come to your rescue if tons of people are effected with some deadly bacteria? GOOD lack. Henry

If you absolutely had to bug out......

Where would you go?.......if you didnt have family with a farm, or able to buy a piece of land, or go to a friends house.
What I am looking for is for creative ideas for people that have no $$ or family to help and feel that they absolutely have to bug out.

Any ideas?

This was the original question at the start of this thread. It was a good question and there have been some very good responses.

Questions are asked, statements are made and more questions are asked. It is a good discussion. Again no one is beating up anyone. If you make a statement you should expect questions that's how we learn. Denob summed it up very nicely with his post. Henry has a valid point that there are "Too many live in fantasy world". This is not beating anyone up or attacking anyone, it is an opinion. One that I share. If we can persuade one prepper not to bug out without being FULLY prepared we have done a good job. As I said before the bush is an unforgiving place. That too is a reality.

First of all get yourself fit and full of skills, shooting, medical, tactical, repair, gardening, electrical, plumbing or whatever. Make yourself so valuable a commodity that other people with less skills then you just gotta have your abilities. Very few people are actually skilled with firearms, hint, hint. I can say that because I am a combat vet and it's my forte.
Bugout to small community of say less than 5,000 and fit yourself into their networks. Community is safety believe it or not.

Bugging in is our only real option with kids under 3. However we have BOBs in case the house catches on fire or someone is in hospital because of some emergency where it is needed that we leave the house for a few nights. Packing for a few days just makes sense for any emergency.

Gravlore,
I agree, but like you, we have 2 standard diaper bags filled with diapers and accesories, spare clothing, child appropriate meds, and always carry food in the car. These kits are regularly checked and upgraded as kids grow like the weeds in my lawn.

if things go really bad money will have little to no bearing on where you end up all this bartering and stuff only gos so far atleast 5 percent of the population will become the apex predator with out police government etc mob rules will be in effect but if you are handy in the woods then you should be okay most predators would never waste time and resources looking for you way back in the woods when there are so many and there will be soft easy targets right by the road look around you even in toronto there are places where you could get way back there just my 2 cents
