How do you think this part of human natural will effected? I was thinking in regards to things like sports for kids. I have a niece that is in figure skating and is trying to make it to the olympics.

truthfully....even though I don't think I will find this path I think a lot of people will look more seriously towards church and those who were godless before will find the big man. not a bad thing to have faith i suppose, and i would imagine that all post apocolyptic events will be held in religious settings.

Like it used to be. Kids got some sticks and a ball and played street hockey or baseball. The middle class will largely be gone. The rich will do whatever they've always done.
If it's NOT SHTF and most of us just have no work, we'll all be sitting around doing what most young people do in the 3rd world. Gab and drink tea.

My parents used to talk about going to other peoples houses for parties every week, when it was their turn they hosted. They never really talked about how they had little or how poor they were, they always talked of how good their friends were and what good times they had. There was never any talk of paid lessons for anything, skating, music, nothing.

still like that in the UK believe it or not, very much so. no money for sports etc, I suppose thats why soccer is so popular over there. all you need is one ball and 22 people can play.

I think you're going to see a resurgence of people actually interacting in a genuine way ...as long as it's not a SHTF case involving much civil unrest...you'll see more social potluck type meals, kids relearning the skills of childhood like board games, cards, dance, outdoor games (you only need a rag ball for impromptu soccer games), crafting circles, skill building circles.
If SHTF in a big way...you won't have any trust in neighbourhoods, the unsavoury types will see to that and the seeds of mistrust in neighbourhoods (where people just don't know each other anymore) are sown (theft, roaming groups of hooligans, self-appointed leaders trying run neighbourhoods). Social events will be much more secretive and bond building between groups who are able to build trust bonds...or they'll be bond severing as peoples' relationships within neighbourhood enclaves are tested.
It's really going to depend on the scenario....economic down turns that are sever ...or EMP....or war...so much will depend on the level of threat involved.

I'm the lady you're stuck behind in the grocery store with the over loaded cart filled with cases of tuna, peanut butter, huge bags of rice and the weary looking husband

I've raised my kids playing board games, cards, neighbourhood Saturday night parties (where we watch Hockey Night in Canada), sing alongs with guitars, potluck suppers, old fashioned skating on the river, summer bonfires, etc. You don't have to wait for SHTF -get started now! Interact now. We simply invited people over -you get to know who your immediate neighbours are real fast BEFORE the SHTF and they are knocking on your door. It's a good time to slowly "educate" them about being prepared especially if you already live in the country. Like having a back-up heating source (wood stove) or generator. Many of us were here for the ice storm of '98 and quickly helped each other however we could.......any 'newbies' hear the stories of what it was like for those 2+ weeks without electricity, open stores, ATMs, or working gas pumps.

In all honestly I would love it if you did a thread on how you managed. Where you a prepper at the time?

I was going to give away all my board games but my UK monopoly and my croakino(sorry spelling sucks, sound it out lol)

I've always been a prepper before there was a name for what I was doing LOL.....
Regarding another thread about how I managed, can you clarify exactly what you mean? The Ice Storm experience or raising kids or neighbours.....let me know and I'd be glad to get the ball rolling.
