I saw a thread on the Canadian tire sale. I just finished building a portable solar kit and I thought I'd share it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR67EHzd00k&feature=youtu.be
Cost Breakdown, since I did a horrible job in the video:
Case: $35 sourced locally at crappy tire
Solar Panels: $20 each from alixpress.com
Battery holders, 10 x AA x 4 units: $2 each from aliexpress.com
Green battery packs x 2: - $13 each from aliexpress.com
Solar charge controller, 30A: - $12 from aliexpress.com
410 watt inverter: - $40 from amazon.ca
40 x AA NiMh rechargable batteries: $2
Odds and ends like bolts, wire, electrical tape, hockey tape, etc. - I had them at home so I'm not sure, but pennies.
Total cost: $241
The batteries are a significant chunk of that! They are bloody expensive.
Anyways, that's what I decided to build. Any thoughts? Criticisms?
Thx Red, I will check out video when I have a few mins. Meantime, maybe the Mods could move it to the video section and give it a wider audience.
