There are lots of ideas for letter templates on various forums such as GOC and CGN. Please do your part to get the Firearms Act fixed.
First they came for the automatics but I said nothing as I had no interest in one
Next they came for the handguns, but I said nothing as they did not appeal to me
Then they came for the restricted rifles but I was satisfied with the compensation they gave me
When they came for my hunting rifles, there were no other owners left to stand by my side
I like that!

I really really really really want to be optimistic about this, really I do. But, whenever government or corporations use the phrase "common sense", I kind of freeze up and shudder a bit 🙂
It sounds good from the points made, I hope to read some good news from the NFA that there really is some common sense coming to Canada. Most people I know consider their guns to be tools to feed their families, a fun sport to do with the whole family, and a bit of a sense of security (yes, not a reason to own a firearm in Canada but never the less, the feeling is there)
Perhaps the next step could be all the classification "non-sense" and the carry laws here in Canada.
It seems the feds are introducing a new Common Sense Firearms Licensing Act this fall which is a step in the right direction for law abiding firearms owners. Two out of three of the following sources state that the Swiss Arms and CZ 858 bans are going to be reversed although never be allowed to be sold in Canada again. The NFA has yet to update their website on the mater, however, here's the first 3 news articles on the topic:

http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/harper-government-brings-common-sense-to-firearms-licensing-1932228.htmIn addition to the reversed ban on the CZ and Swiss Arms rifles the highlights of the new act include the following:
-> Merge the Possession Only License (POL) and the Possession and Acquisition License (PAL);
-> Restrict the ability of Chief Firearms Officers to make arbitrary decisions;
-> Create a grace period at the end of the five-year licence to stop people from immediately becoming criminalized for paperwork errors;
-> End needless paperwork around Authorizations to Transport by making them a condition of a license;
-> Require mandatory firearms safety courses for first-time gun owners; and
-> Strengthen firearms prohibitions for those who are convicted of domestic violence offences.Steven Blanley, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness (you guys and gals should know this guy), announced these changes in North Bay yesterday. I should also mention that the Conservatives did very poorly during the last election with respect to votes in North Bay. With that said many people are suggesting that this is a political, propaganda stunt to regain or ensure more votes for next years election. It would be sad to think that our rights and freedoms as firearms owners are entwined within political drama to secure more votes and the immature, child-like, sandbox conflicts between bureaucrats (specifically the RCMP) and politicians.
Nevertheless, I'm quite happy with Steven Blanley after hearing this news. Here's a video of the statement:
One day, the lowly farmer will be King
