Hi redlite just little note .I was at the course just few weeks ago.The regulations regarding to hand guns are changing very fast.Yes I could fire the gun on my property but i would have to built very complicated and approved big wall. Before i fire the gun in here I would have get a OK from OPP.After obtaining gun permit I would have to join target shooting club go and just to watch them shooting (keeping my gun at home) Than I have to take another course (safety) at the gun club and then I would be allowed to bring my gun to the club target shooting.Avery time I want to go I still would have to call OPP.That what I was told at the course. Is it worthwhile ???
PS:I am yet to meet older guy in Muskoka who does not have hand gun at home. Henry

Hey. Henry,

I know its really ridiculous. They really make it a chore to get through the process, but once done I have been having fun. I see your point about the redundancy of the safety courses, but each club have their own way of doing things so that is why they want you to do their safety coarse even though you just did one.

As for once you get your club ATT, you can transport your restricted firearm to any approved gun club in the province. No need to contact anyone. If you ever needed to take the gun anywhere else in the prov. you would need to call the cfo to get a temp att. One example I can think of is getting work done on the gun by a gunsmith, or selling it.

Well I hope you give it a shot.... I would like to see more and more people get their license. With greater members, maybe we can exert further change for the better when it comes to restricted firearms.

Not as long as there are liberals around.

We use to hunt with hand guns in Northern Ontario now I can hunt target shoot with .22 ,.306 ,.308 atc. but not with hand gun.You could see it slowly coming.God forbid you use gun in self defense ,you would be definitely charge more than the attacker.I had guys on for-wheelers running all over my property ,when I approach them they told me no f..... immigrant is gona tell them where to ride. When I call OPP I was told they cannot chase them in a bush just leave them alone they will leave sooner or later.Just like in the system I run away from.Police is protecting government rules not the citizens . Just look in Toronto what excuses the courts are finding for the attackers." too young" " was abused child" was on drugs" so let give him a break. We are following USA like a little brother Henry

once upon a time a guy told me about how they did things in the little town somewhere in Newfoundland he grew up in. Seems they used to reload spent shot shells with rock salt and use it as a defensive load. Even though its still illegal to defend yourself with firearms I would imagine the salt tends to be non lethal but really, really painful. I do really wish though that the general population would screw their heads on straight and demand that we ALL have the right to defend ourselves in our homes, whether it be by calling 9-1-1 or deploying 00 buckshot at high velocity.

Where I use to live, I had an apartment beside me. The Garbage trucks use to short curb over my property, I complained but with no avail. So when it was wet I buried some spikes pointed up, and lo and behold there was a tow truck next door hauling away the garbage truck. Then I dug up what foreign metal that strangely got into my ground. 😈

Nice work Ranger. Some people around here put rocks the size of basketballs on their curb.

Context of this string is a bit off...All the gun rules are good for today, and yes we should be abiding by them.. BUT..if there ever really is a SHTF situation, those sidearms that you used for target shooting only, and those longer range hunting rifles will no doubt come in handy..Follow the rules, buy pepper spary for protection from dogs and put it away, purchase what you think you will need and put it away.. Follow the rules, as long as there are rules. Am I wrong..??

I think I read somewhere that 'potency' "dog/bear spray" in Canada and only go up to so many Scoville units in heat, where as in the US, the sky is the limit for pepper spray...

Apparently the Pest Control Products Act is the relevant piece of legislation.

Homemade dog/pepper spray (not to be used on humans..). Buy spray bottle. In spray bottle put 2 parts rubbing alcohol to 1 part cayenne (or another hot type of) pepper. Shake well. Easy peasy.

& if S really does HTF then use the 3 S's. Shoot, shovel and shut up. (of course I am talking about distempered coons here folks....)

Practice in slow motion with a buddy going for vulnerable parts of the body. Your mind will remember even when you panic.

I've read a lot of this thread, but admit I havn't read it all...so if I'm repeating something already said my bad.

But the one key to self defense that we don't talk about much: Situational Awareness.

If you can see an event evolving into confrontation, or your "spidey sense" is tingling and you don't feel comfortable...scoot. You can train yourself to be more aware of your surroundings, peculiar actions or people, warning signs, etc. I'm not talking about super CIA training or anything as eclectic as that. 🙂 But simply being aware of your surroundings, and avoiding bad situations will take care of 99% of your potential problems. Whether a SHTF scenario, or every day life. Just be aware.

-Getting on an elevator. When the doors open, and the only other person on the elevator your about to get into gives you a bad feeling....don't get on. Listen to your instinct. Maybe the person is totally fine, that's not the point. Its making sure your listening to your instinct and avoiding a potentially harmful situation.
-fight breaks out in a bar? You can usually see events like this escalate. Loud voices, pushing, chests puffed out, posturing, etc. Leave. Get out. any spill over, or escalation is avoided.

Any confrontation should be a last resort. If your forced into it, then so be it. Use the tools you've got to protect yourself. But running from a confrontation means I'm 100% guaranteed not to get hurt. Best self defense possible! 🙂
