Nope...Ta would be at my 6. I can handle the 12. I guess that would make the safest place right in the middle of us.

As I was reading this all I kept thinking about was the book The Chyrysalids by John Wyndham. It is the spry of a post-SHTF world where the people don't remember our time and how TSHTF. They base their laws on the Bible and being "normal". Any baby born different is killed. There must ave been nuclear war because everything grows wild and strange. One of the characters travels. Home is probably Newfoundland and the travels down the NA coast which ha been destroyed are quite interesting, all the mutated examples of humanity. Anyway long story short the kids in the book end up being rescued by people from Zealand...so my take on this issue just might be Newfoundland and Znew Zealand. How do we move there?

I remember reading a book, where after a global nuclear war started, different nations started say on the teletype (old) that they were neutral. They were the next to be nuked.
Lesson to be learned, if there is a major conflict, Shut the F””” up, and don’t come out of hiding until the shooting stops, then start bargain hunting. 😈

Here in Canada I think the safest place would be one that has these qualities:
-temperate with good growing season
-limited population density
-limited road access
-away from strategic strike locations
-potential for wind, solar, or microhydro
-is a naturally defensive location
-is somewhat isolated from the jetstream wind pattern and associated precipitation
-has game

Given this line of thought I think the best location is in the Okanagan valley away from Kelowna. Two mountain ranges separate it from the coast, another few mountain ranges separate it from Alberta. There's limited road access from high population areas - basically only 3 (somewhat easily blocked) roads to it. It's at elevation. It's mountainous which would make it a difficult place for the military to occupy effectively. As well this would protect you a little bit from radioactive precipitation as it would likely have dumped earlier as the wind crossed the aforementioned 2 mountain ranges. You're in the same general area of the so-called "Great Redoubt" in the Pac NW. It seems like the best location.

The Rock would be good too, except that it doesn't have the growing season and I'm not sure of the power situation there. I imagine wind would be good at least. On the negative side, Hibernia might be a strategic asset to protect. Not to mention it's the first stop between Europe so it might have military value.

I also like the Cypress Hills, Alberta area.

In Ontario I guess as long as you're out of the nuclear plant triangle in sw. ontario, and you're remote enough it's not too bad.

The issue of location, to me, is whether or not there's work there. This is the most important consideration. You still have to stay financially viable, you know?

newfoundland and prince edward island would seem pretty safe to me Beth. Newfoundland offers isolation and an abundance of fish and game, its setback is that agriculturally it is poor. PEI is isolated more or less and has strong agriculture and fishing, but not as large an abundance of game. That aside, I think Atlantic Canadians show exceptional resilience and help each other in times of trouble, although it seems that those qualities are less so around urban centers. Just my opinion 🙂

Although I agree with some points of your opinion I must add that safest place to live depends a lot on what is coming. For example, if it where a pole shift that was to cause SHTF, then PEI would not be the place to be, same would be said for a tsunami. An earthquake off the Atlantic coast could cause PEI as well as a lot of NFLD to find themselves under water. Most PEI preppers I know have bug out land in NB or NS as both have great natural resources and vast areas of wilderness. The biggest problem with NB is the nuke plant, but then again when that goes we are all in for a ride no matter what part of the maritimes one might live in. I also agree that maritimers tend to be helpful to each other in time of need, yet that closeness might also cause problems as I have NOT prepped for the whole of the village I live in, just my family. The "everyone knows everyone" kinda places also tend tobe the kinda place everyone know others business as well and they will recall when SHTF. I have prepped and they have not... I don't expect every knock on the door would be from an understanding neighbor... With PEI having a population of aprox 145,000 ppl on a million acres, just makes everyone a bit too close for my liking... SHTF...NB here I come 🙂

When TSHTF the safest place in the world, will probably be in the place that your not. So dont worry about it and plan to survive with what is handed to you.
