I keep a roadside emergency bag and two get home bags, one for the wife and one for me.

The G.H.B.'s have the following
water, MRE's, waterproof matches, lighter, fire starter, folding pocket knife, multi-tool, PVC fishing kit, stove, fuel for stove, cliff bars, 100' 550 cord, whistle, compass, 1 pair of underwear, 1 pair of socks, 1 t-shirt, first aid kit, emergency blanket, rain poncho, blanket, LED flashlight, LED headlamp, extra batteries, mechanics gloves, SAS survival guide, hand sanitizer, N95 masks, sewing kit, chem lights, magnifying glass, utility tool, carabeener, 11 in 1 tool (very cool tool), survival candle

Roadside Emergency Bag has the following;
booster cables, 14' tow strap 7500lb capacity, air compressor, snow shovel, 1W ultra bright hands free headlamp, reflective warning triangle, work gloves, duct tape, cable ties, 6 in 1 fleece hood, winter gloves, blanket, first aid kit, hand and foot warmers, rain poncho, emergency candle, matches, needle nose pliers screwdriver with ten bits, utility knife, emergency hammer and seat belt cutter.

This roadside kit is a great kit and is available at Costco, I only paid $45 so I bought one for every car and I bought two extras to give away as gifts at Christmas. It's pretty sweet as it all fits into a easy to carry case.

The G.H.B. is a work in progress, I know there is till more that I should have/want in there.

Too be were not able to post pics of all our great kit.

One thing missing from those road side kits
Tire patching plugs for vehicle tires
I always thought I was doing good with compressor in the trunk but never thought about fixing the hole
Only a few bucks now but will save me a tow or road side repair fee

Good idea, I'll have to acquire some. I also thought of getting a can or two of run flat. That way it will get me to a service station.

If you are looking to do roadside hole repairs you will also need to have water and soap to hopefully find the leak if there is no obvious embedded object. A roadside repair is ONLY temporary and to do a safe job you need to remove the tire from the rim and check and patch the inside as well. A functional spare tire will reduce the need for this procedure...LOLOL !!!!!

I bought this kit from Costco. Good value.

Plus I added
An improved first aid kit
Fire extinguisher
Jumper cables
Knife, flashlight & shovel
Can of flat repair goop

There is room in the bag. Plus the bag has wheels and a telescoping handle.

In the car, I have the very basics, in a milk crate. The one thing that I havent seen anybody post is windshield reflectors. You know the type I mean, foil on one side and a foam plastic on the other. I have 2 of these in my car all year long. You talk about insulated space blankets, well these are double duty. They're great at reflecting heat away or back at you, have one of these under you if your forced to sleep on the ground. The other one you can wrap around you or have it reflecting heat from a fire. @$2 ea or less, you would be a fool not to have a few. :geek:

when i travel long distance, i sleep in the truck, i've used blankets to block out light of eye balls looking in. . .(at least i don't like sleep when people can see me) i've meant to buy some of these for years. my wife's truck was our first BOV, it has a cap that only has a back window to look in. if you look in it looked like it was full of bags, and some tools. . . (cause it was lol) but i never liked the idea of parking where people could look in (when travelling etc.) i always thought those reflectors would be a great way to keep eyes out, and a little extra heat. . . going to have find me few of them now. . . great idea.

adsum. . . aut viam inveniam aut faciam

Buy yourself the cheapest space blanket there is and water paste (wet window then apply) it to the inside of window. Trim and tape the edges. works great and is cheaper than window film.

Extra glasses.
If you need glasses to see, you will need them to drive.

Blanket and sheet
Candle, matches, candy, water

You brought up a very good point a long bar to extend your tire iron. I had a flat last year on new truck 1 year old I bent the tire iron with just my hands no bar. Moral of the story preventive maintenance is one of the MOST important things in prepping. You depend on your BOV to get you there and what if it breaks down you can not call CAA, your screwed. So rotate tires, torque nuts proper pressure change all filters your life may depend on it keep tank full. An ounce of prevention...

I have an emergency road kit with multiple blankets, hydraulic jack, wind up flash light, Candles, Matches, Candies, first-aid kit. Might even be an old cheese burger under the seat somewhere.

Speaking of cheese burgers. I know a guy who put frozen smelts under his seat for ice fishing and then forgot about them. Months later we could not figure out what the awful smell was. Even after we cleaned the car it still smelled all summer.
