ratdogmom where did you get the KwikKlot tablet towels?
?
3 packages of KwikKloth tablet towels...8 tablets to a package...these are like a heavy duty disposable, multiple use, biodegradable face cloth/towel that you activate by dropping in water, packages are the size of a blister pack of gum...going in the BOBs

I got them at Dollar Giant which is now Dollar Tree. It was where their toiletries are.

In the First Aid I took before my last one (so this was a couple years ago), the instructor mentioned that Quick Clot wasn't approved for use in Canada. He was member of the Canadian Forces who had served in Afghanistan and was talking about how since there was no regulation about there, the CF could provide it and soldiers could use it in theatre, but because Health Canada hadn't approved it here, the same soldiers couldn't use it here if there was say, a training accident...

I don't know that it's illegal per-se, I'd imagine you could bring it in from the US without any problems. But if you used it here, you could be opening yourself up to liability since it wouldn't be covered by any sort of Good Samaritan law that generally protects people doing first aid.

In that same course, the instructor showed us a US Army video of Quick Clot that was used on a live pig that had one of it's major arteries cut for a test of it. I've got to say it was pretty impressive to see how well it did in fact work.

Celox (quick clot) is available for sale in Canada. They also have a lot of other great first aid devices and supplies.

Double post for my preps this week...

I went long on books this week...
I picked up John Seymour's The Self-Sufficient Life And How To Live It, Carleen Madigan's The Backyard Homestead, Thomas J. Glover's Pocket Ref (which is apparently affiliated with Maxpidition somehow?), A little book on knots and downloaded James W. Rawls' Patriots. I also recently acquired a SOG Power Assist multi-tool and Blink knife and a Benchmade Mini Griptillian (I love me some knives, I have like 8-10 folders right now that rotate through my EDC and a SOG Agency, but the Agency is almost too nice to use!). I also picked up a few extra cans of soup, but one got ate (had a hankering for French-Canadian split-pea). I made a point of locating my winter stuff too.

Over the summer I made a point of making a trip to Novaks to pick up some topo-maps of the intimidate area, the two sheets that cover London cover my place and my folk's place. I also want to pick up the maps that cover the area between where I'm at and Kettle Point where my GF's folks live. They also had a map of the hiking trail that goes from Port Stanley on Lake Erie and connects to the London trail system. It happens to pass right by my house and seems like a good route to get to know.
