Acquired a bit more silver... Until my family has relocated, we just keep status quo with preps.
Big Berkey + extra pack black filters .
I also bought a dehydrator . Dried banana's ....er.... worked well. Got it at Wal-Mart for $50. I ate the chips and got horrible heart burn. lol. .
Digesting the dehyrated foods is harder for me to digest. Maybe you have to work yourself up to being able to eat more of it.
I have to buy a dehyrator sooner than later. But I just bought my grain mill a week ago , and then this week the Berkey.
I have to get some grains to grind next . The grain mill I got will grind the rice super fine and super fine wheat
If you are having trouble with things falling through the mesh on your trays(I assume your dryer is a round stacking type), you can get mesh sheets, that lay on top of your existing trays, that have a very fine mesh. I got three 2 packs for less than 10.dollars. They work great, especially for berries, or frozen corn. The sheets are quite plyable, which picking them up is easy. They do tend to stain a little....have not quite figured out how to get them really clean looking. I know they are clean, they just dont look like it. One other thing, drink plenty of fluids with your dried stuff, or you will end up all bunged up; not much fun.
WHOLE MILK POWDERED MILK!!!!
I got a 900g can of"full cream" powdered milk that is from New Zealand (a brand from the Netherlands was another option available too) from Nations Fresh Foods in Hamilton (Jackson Square shopping center). $20 for the can and it makes the equivalent of 7.9 liters. The brand is Anchor. The BB date is May 2016 so it has some longevity. The only additives are vitamins and lecithin as an emulsifier...I can live with that.
I can not stand powdered skim milk like you get in the grocery store...I'm hoping this works out tastier if only for cooking and making up baking mixes, salad dressing mix and not actually drinking. Worst case scenario it's used up in homemade dog food/dog treats.
It's obviously meant to be exported from NZ to the Asian market due to the instructions being in both English and Chinese and there is an instruction to mix it using previously boiled water...which is a good reminder for emergency situations.
Nations also has a store in Vaughn for anybody interested.
I'm the lady you're stuck behind in the grocery store with the over loaded cart filled with cases of tuna, peanut butter, huge bags of rice and the weary looking husband
I also bought a dehydrator .
I have also done apples and they did well too but if you cut up the apple remember they shrink and will fall through the trays if you don't cut them big enough.
I buy pkgs of window screen, the patio size ones.
Last forever, easy to wash and easier to get food off them.
You do have to cut to size of your trays.
Tip:
When you cut them, don't cut the center part out (if its a round one), the air will pass thru easy but it stops any food from going down thru the center.

Rotated fuel stores and a replaced/purchased a couple cases (on sale) of canned foods for the copy canning process in the pantry.

Thanks for the advice on the window screening, and not cutting out the center hole. With the screens (small mesh tray covers) I have, there is still the problem of stuff getting in the center hole. I have a big roll of window screen , so will try it. It is a lot cheaper than the purchased ones too. I am doing garlic and onions, for storage right now.
Sooner than Later I said I needed a dehydrator. I have ordered an Excalibur Stainless Steel
5 tray with timer and clear door. I decided the 9 tray was too tall and seemed so huge .
I also bought 25 lb of Oat Groats . Small amount of Millet and small amount of Cornmeal.
I ordered them online from Oak Manor Farms in Tavistock ON
I have to learn first what I can do with Millet and Cornmeal before I buy more.
Added a lite my fire , fire steel 2.0 with built in whistle
Love it , beautiful spark
This is going to be my go to fire steel

I have added much to my preps in the last little while. First aid supplies here and there, pain meds, antibiotic cream, a proper pack for a BOB, extra food and water, throwing knives, etc. Awesome!
Just a comment , I actually tried eating some canned meat someone had reccomended when it was on sale and while it might keep you alive , I grow my own chickens for meat and that commercially canned chicken, nor any meat product I find commercially available, does not closely resemble any real meat you raise on a farm. I am going to work on my husbandry and canning skills .
Syn,
Fair statement, but you are practically comparing apples and oranges here. Of course the fresh, backyard grown peas and raised chicken will taste much better than mass-produced canned in water stuff from the grocery. That said, for those that can't be in a situation to raise / grown their own food, storing canned shouldn't be frowned upon...
