Stacked 8 cords firewood........ well my grown children and grandchildren piled it and I made them a lovely Thanksgiving supper. 😉 Fair trade I think. One son swept my chimney today. Tomorrow I'll be cleaning out the soot and ash from my cook stove and it'll be ready to burn. It's been quite damp this fall.
Added a couple dozen cans of soup.
New meat slicer used to slice up coon meat and get it in brine for jerky drying to start to morrow (trying something new)
4 cord of split fire wood
two truck loads of birch logs
got one of those electric splitters on sale at Canadian tire goona give it a try
Local small grocer chain had winter squashes on for 39cents a lb last week...so I bought 27 lbs of it. Processed most of it for the freezer and left some of the smaller squashes for the fruit cellar.
I've not seen squash at that price in probably 20yrs. It's been a great year for squash/pumpkin in my area I guess.
I'm the lady you're stuck behind in the grocery store with the over loaded cart filled with cases of tuna, peanut butter, huge bags of rice and the weary looking husband
- As always... more Rice
- a bunch of HARD CAKE Sunlight laundry soap I ordered from Amazon. Could not find it locally
for use with the old fashioned washboard
- more dog food
- styrofoam bowls , I figure bowls are easier to use than plates for porridge / stews / soups / macaroni
often I see paper plates mentioned, but honestly the type of food I would be eating would do better in a bowl.
- 2 different types of Kerosene Heaters ( I still need to get kerosene )
- more spring bottled water
- more long underwear to have some new ones kept for spares
- N95 flat fold masks
- extra dog leashes to keep as spares
- zillions of free kindle books I've been downloading daily on any and all subjects and a few novels
- insulated stainless steel mugs because there could be the need to keep the contents warm longer in a power outage in cold weather
Couple face cords of birch firewood for use in my wood shop. Working on a Rocket Mass Heater to heat the place. 2 cases of soup (one tomato, one cream of mushroom), 10 kg of pasta. got 150 pounds of local potatoes coming in tomorrow.
Bought a new weather radio. Here in southern US, the warnings through the radios go beyond weather and also cover water boil advisories, Amber alerts, chemical spills, etc. so it is a small investment. My Kaito radio has been good but it doesn't have SAME codes so I've been woken up at 2 am for coastal high tide watches a few 100 miles away (sigh). So the Kaito is going in the metal gun safe as a back up (EMP/solar flare proofed?).
Dried some more garlic. Even doing it out in the sun porch, the house reeks of garlic, but I can think of worse smells. DH says "There will be no vampires in this house" . I agree that even they wouldn't want to stay!
I canned 12 litres of non-gmo organic tomatoe sauce and bought 350 rounds of OO buck and 175 rounds of ssg slugs.
Today I picked up another WWII German entrenching tool. ( third one, it lasts a lifetime and is almost indestructible.)
made a coupla changes to my micro organiser - swapped the dime for a Juice CS4 (got it for AU$35 inc shipping), added a small mirror, a 50m spool of dental floss, a 100 use hand sanitiser pen.
also bought some asstd air tight containers for the pantry, some power bank / charge cables for the iPhone 4s and ipod touch, got my dad a big number display mobile and case for emergencies
added about a weeks worth of dinners to the freezer - pasta/rice with mince n veges, bought more dry pasta
I grew up on Looney Tunes, Marx Brothers mvies and Robin Williams, Enter my mind at your own risk
2 large jars of Bee pollen
!!!! HELP !!!
What is proper storage method and what are the uses it was a gift I am not familiar with
We live in a society of wolves ,
We can't fight back by creating more sheep
With the bee pollen I would just take a teaspoonful...
Improving endurance and vitality Extending longevity Aiding recovery from chronic illness
Adding weight during convalescence Reducing cravings and addictions Regulating the intestines
Building new blood Preventing infectious diseases such as the cold and flu (it has antibiotic type properties)
Bee pollen is considered one of nature’s most completely nourishing foods, containing nearly all nutrients required by humans
They contain all the essential components of life – they are rich in proteins, free amino acids, and vitamins, including B-complex and folic acid
Bee pollen in the diet acts to increase high-density lipoproteins (HDL), decrease low-density lipoproteins (LDL), and normalized blood serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels
This article also shows the benefits of bee pollen in treating infertility and allergies, supporting weight control, and creating longevity, to name a few
It is 40% protein.. The uses go on.. Google and you can read all about it, good to store and great to eat.. A little dry but with on you can down it without too much ado. I stock lots of honey myself. And it can be stored forever.
Yesterday I added another pocket knife... That makes 35... Lmao... I picked up 4 personal mesh camo nets. I forget what they call it, but it rolls up into a small bundle about the size of a tennis ball. Then you can open it and cover yourself. Kind of like an instant blind. I also picked up a 3 month supply of freeze dried food for a family of 4. Canadians make the best don't they? My nephew has become an affiliate member which means we can sell and get a bulk discount. Basically, that means all my friends and family can get it at my cost. I can hardly wait until I try some of the sample packs. Saturday can't roll around fast enough.
No such thing as too many knives 🙂
Processed a bushel of apples into sauce/canned/dehydrated apples.
I went to XS Cargo's closing out sale and ended up buying a "Amazing Fries" french fry cutter "as seen on TV" that's meant to do one whole potato at a time and I used that for my dehydrated apples. It cut them into the perfect width/height for the dehydrator. Now I have dehydrated apples that look like nasty parking lot fries 😛 But they turned out really nice even if they are kind of ugly looking. Sure made cutting them up for the dehydrator super fast and efficient.
The same one is called a Perfect Fries French Fry Cutter on walmart.ca if you want to look at it. It worked well on the apples. Can't speak for it's use with potatoes but it would make great zucchini sticks or cucumber sticks

I've been eating bee pollen for a couple years now. Like it was said above, a tsp a day os plenty. I usually eat mine sprinkled on some peanut butter/honey toast. Very yummy and very healthy.
