Purchased a small jar of "glow in the dark" paint. Apparently, with several thin layers and covered with clear nail polish, it works really well as night sights on firearms. Not yet painted, I'll give you a review once done. Also, went to enjoy the gun range. Not really prepping per se, but a heck of a lot of fun and thought I'd share.
Placed a couple pounds of moth balls around the fence perimeter to ward off some pest (an armadillo I reckon... welcome to the south!) that has been chewing up my yard, closer and closer to my garden. Should also help preventing the mice problems we had in the garage last fall. Speaking of which, I've rebated my traps, in case the moth ball deterents don't work.
Made a sample pack of different medicines (Advil, Gravol, Immodium, Claritin, Anti-acid) to place in my EDC bag. You have an EDC bag, do you?
Ordered a bow saw with 2 spare blades.
Cleaned up the garden, only have peppers, tomatoes (both still going strong!) and a few carrots left. Waiting to see what will come out of the potato tower that was arguably started a bit late.
Harvest time with my garden is almost over so between the canning and the dehydrating of things, my cold storage room is once again looking pretty good.
I really enjoy dehydrating things, especially my fruit. Makes for great snacks, takes up very little space, and light to cart around. Kiwi is one of our favorites.
Also purchased a new LifeSaver cube water filter through Briden. Looking forward to trying it out.
In September....
11pints home canned pork loin (on sale $1.87lb)
14 pints of home canned pot roast (inside round roast $3.99lb)
7 quart jars and 7 750ml jars of home canned potatoes
4 plastic canning jar totes from Canadian Tire (Now I can safely stack pint jars on the tall sets of shelves in my cold room)
2 dozen more pint jars, a dozen half pint jars and a dozen 125ml jars
8 dozen Ball lids from Dollarama $1.50 ea
10 lbs of carrots and 10 lbs beets $1.99ea

Well, that was really worth it. The small vial is hardly an Once, but you only need the tip of a toothpick at a time, so a small vial goes a long way.
I've put 4 coats over all my plain sights and finished off with some laquer as directed. You only need to shine a flashlight for a second to have very brightly lit sights lasting through the night. I'm sure there would be a thousand use for that paint, perhaps for lures or to cover an emergency box with (first aid kit?) or maybe a key chain so you can find it in the dark.
My $0.02.
helicopilot, that's interesting...lasting through the night you say.....I will keep this in mind though it may be some time before I get a chance to try this, but good discovery
Another 100 pounds of propane in 20 pound tanks put away for long term storage.Agian I get the tanks for free as they are expired. I started stocking, storing propane in 100 pound tanks but I have to say the days when I could bear hug a a full tank off the pickup and set it into place are gone, so now its 20 and 30 pounders I store propane in. Like my wood storage I am now well stocked in propane though I only use it for the stoves so it lasts forever
Give a man a gun, and he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank, and he can rob the world.
I've bought expired tanks at garage sales before and had a heck of a time getting them filled (lesson learned).
I ended up doing the exchange thing at a convenience store (depaneur here in Quebec) where the kids behind the counter don't bother checking, but that gets almost as expensive as buying new tanks.
So, I have to ask...how do you get your expired tanks filled?
If your buying propane in bulk you may want to look at larger containers like 100L size. Most construction specialty stores sell them like Battlefield or CRS, etc. If your storing in larger quantities but dont want to bust the bank with the ultra huge tanks which require concrete supports, etc. those 100L tanks can be more cost effective for purchase and refilling.
As for preps this week:
-Another chord of wood (This guy is selling at $60/chord maple, ash, etc. dried and great stuff!)
-8 bags of cut up wine crates for kindling/wood. (Great hot burning stuff..who wouldve guessed.)
-Changed out Vehicle Emergency Kit and booked winter tires install. Changed out BOB's for the family for the winter season.

Ya...I know...it sounds to good to be true! But its a full chord, dried and cut @ 12" for me.
If anyone in SW Ontario wants his contact info. just PM me. He's around the New Hamburg/Wellesley area. Really down to earth fellow who's retired and does this to keep the ski doo trails open and something to keep him busy. As long as your not asking for 30 cords he typically has enough stacked and ready to go!

Thanks Peppercorn...PM received.
I also have wood envy...I just ordered 10 face cords for $88.00 each.
Still...I heat my home on this for the season so $880.00 for a winters worth of heat still beats electric!
I just added...my PAL 🙂 That is, I just passed the federal non-restricted firearms course with flying colors. I joined the local gun club and have been shooting 22 rifles for a month, but now I'm looking forward to researching and then buying my first firearm 🙂
I also just dehydrated a whack of zucchini and hot peppers....
