I should actually add to this post on what I've added lately... Last week I made the jump to "crazy doomsdayer" and obtained a few RU6500 Honeywell Full Face respirators. With them, several sets of 75SCP100L filters.

Sold some of my radio gear to purchase an upgrade.
ended up with this...
http://www.rigpix.com/yaesu/ft767gx.htm
A bit newer than what I had, but still a rig from the 80's
Advantages are more bands, automatic antenna tuner, and double the output power that I had!!!
Now if my voice would only come back, I could really test it out, but so far I'm already receiving much better than before!

I made a big batch of homemade cold process soap today. I also bought an elliptical machine, because after having my weight creep up a bit every year, along with blood pressure, I have decided what I REALLY need to add to my preps is improved health. I also got back into cross-country skiiing on the weekend, after not doing that for a few years. That means I've added some aches where I didn't know I had muscles 😉 but hopefully that goes away after a few weeks.

8 Gallons of wine... Nice. I have to admit that I can never truly seem to add wine, as my wife and I seem to drink it. The good thing is, we end-up making more:

"We should really put down some wine for Prepping."

"Yes, good idea Dear..."

It's a never ending cycle ... 🙂

I've purchased a GMC 300E Geiger Counter! They are very reasonably priced on amazon. Certainly not the biggest and baddest "all around" one out there, but for the price and what it does just fine for what I need. Will be heading up to Northern Ont in a couple weeks and looking forward to testing it out around some Elliot Lake areas, the Nuc Refinery in Blind River, for fun.

As an aside, you can download readings from your geiger counter and also see what other people have recorded throughout the world at:
http://www.gmcmap.com

Anything below 50 CMP is normal background radiation. There is a location in Rassvet, Russia...that recorded 748...

Crownsown,
What if any are the calibration requirements for the unit?

Added a few items to the vehicle. 4 way wheel wrench ($4 at thrift store) and a glass breaker/seat belt cutter. Next trip to the pick n pull I will try out the glass breaker/belt cutter.

The user manuals notes the factory reset will return the unit to the general settings for readings.

However, there is a process where you can specifically calibrate it also in the users manual on p. 14 which requires a radioactive source. I'll prob do that shortly also.
