The topic of budget restraints seems to come up quite often. What would be your top 3 purchases if money was no object? For me...

1- Some sort of armored vehicle(s). Tank or APC and a track to practice on.
2- Complete underground bug out location for family and friends. Basically a town underground.
3- Aircraft and knowledge to fly it, and place to store it.

We have had some serious topics up lately, and with someone winning 50,000,000 yesterday maybe we'll give them an idea of what to spend all that paper on 😀 .

Land with a spur rail line on it, an old (running) locomotive, heavy equipment, a nice house that is designed with security in mind. More land with Bruce Beach to design another ARC using O/S containers, (something that can stood up in and also lived in, not just survive). Old trucks that can be hooked up to a Gasifier with out too much trouble (may have to talk to Jay Leno). A junk metal yard, with a smithy and a metal shop run off a water wheel power. A Canadian tire store or a TSC with a gun sale license, and a grocery store next door, ( cant accused of hoarding when I by for it, & 20% for my own use. Some farm lots rented out (tenants). A library, with all the books required to survive and progress for the future populous. A small medical center, with an ER on it.
OR a small town.
Damn, almost forgot the Liqour/Beer store. 😯

Pretty much what I have now, in a different location, more trees, a high hoe, and some good natured, hard working, argumentative, families to go with it. When I win the lotto I aim to share.

With unlimited funds
I would buy a dialysiss machine and the supplies and staff to run it indefinately for my daughter
Then a valley in the back country of Albertas foot hills with all the horses and cattle to keep on it
A solar and wind powered facility

We can't fight back by creating more sheep

Ranger I want to be your neighbour! Never thought of buying my own TSC. Sorry to hear about your daughter Mule Skinner, hate to hear of any young person with health problems, I wish her the best.

a farm,
old fashioned farming equipment,
some newer stuff so I can build on to the farm house underground
farm animals
a couple older cars with out all the electronics.
spare parts for the cars
a lathe ect,
seeds
the house would be completly off grid by the time I was done with it.
self defence classes, archery classes,
plus most of the stuff you all said. I agree with farm girl about the extra cabins. that way you can take in people and they can help work the farm and lok out of reach other.

While the temptation would be to go "large", I'd be thinking small and self contained. Some of the things on my list would be:

- a modest plot of very rural land -
- 100-200 acres
- multiple water sources on the property - preferably a swift moving stream and a few ponds
- at least 30-50 acres wooded for firewood
- a small bungalow of around 1500 square feet with 3 heating sources
- forced air oil
- forced air wood
- passive wood
- diesel generator
- a fully equipped work shop
- 2 barns - 1 for the horses another for the other livestock
- an indoor riding arena
- 2 diesel tractors and all new equipment for hay and other crops
- 4x4 bobcat with attachments
- a selection of hunting rifles and compound bows
- a big high fence with the big sign on it - FO!

a Gas generator that will run off of a Gasifier, a large propane freezer/fridge that can be heated with a gasifier, a water tank to take the heat from the main gasifier, a large fuel bladder to store the excess wood gas created with the gasifier and a old truck fitted with...wait for it... a gasifier. A house built around a Biogas heater.

a larger piece of land in an unorganized township, a couple of large windmills, a full solar array, a ton of the best eco building materials (enough for 6 houses at least) then ld look for like minded people to share the land and help build a self-sustaining community 🙂
