I know its not directly related to prepping, but I just feel its necessary to draw attention to the events that happened this day in the USA 11 years ago. whether or not you believe in the "official statement" or one of the many conspiracies floating around out there, the fact is that over 3000 people died in the trade centers alone, 343 of them FDNY fire fighters, and 23 NYPD officers. These service men died trying to save the lives of thousands, risking their own safety to go above and beyond their call of duty, often returning dozens of times into the unstable buildings. The events go to show that although first responders will do everything in their power to save the lives of civilians during unprecidented events such as these, there is little they can do to protect the masses during such chaos.

I hope that we will all take a moment and reflect on this disaster, and whatever your thoughts about the events are, please be respectful of those that gave their lives to save the innocent. This was a true SHTF event that rocked the world, and first responders were challeneged with the safety of a city of millions, staffed with only a few thousand underpaid and under appreciated heroes. Use events like this, and other disasters around the world to see just what is expected of your front line responders, as well as what they are capable of and what their limitations are. And if you know any first responders (police, fire, paramedic, military) please take the time today to call them, and thank them for laying their lives on the line every day.

And hope that when SHTF for you, and you need them the most, you will be one of the lucky ones to be pulled from the rubble.

See you all after.

Buggie,

A truly sad day in history and I am sure your sediments are echoed around the world. I would hope we all take even a small moment to reflect and recognize the sacrifice.

I do not want hijack this very important thread with conspiracy mumbo jumbo but I have to say the documentary in the link below really makes you ponder the events of 9/11. If even half of what is suggested in this documentary is true it make the senseless loss of life even harder to swallow. I could not imagine anyone completely discounting some of the arguments which will make even the biggest skeptic stop and think.

Buggie,

I think it's appropriate to acknowledge the event. 9-11 is a modern day example of a SHTF event which essential changed the world as we knew it. I don't have anything to say about peoples theories about what has and has not been disclosed. The fact that the world changed is enough for me.

Buggie, It was indeed a day that changed the world as we all know it. The stories we hear of how people reacted like the first responders from Fire, EMS, and police as well as the common citizens such as those aboard flight #93 does make me appreciate more so the strong and Good spirit that can be found in the folks around us. I hope that if we are ever faced with a SHTF situation down the road that many people will step up and show courage as these folks did.

On that terrible day, I was working in Washington State for the United States Department of Energy at a secure nuclear facility.

Gathered around my computer were my former co-workers (other engineers & nuclear specialists) of all US military branches.

I remember the sirens, Blackhawk gun ships over the Interstate, fighter jets circling and Nike missile batteries popping up.

I see how quickly it can hit the fan and turn the world upside down.

I'm thankful I live north of the 49th.
