And all are still a step above a baseball bat, machete, axe, or knife in self defense. At least theirs range.
you will have one shot.. that's it with a bow of any kind. Try bow hunting deer while they walk along, not at a grazing pace but actually walking.
What are we talking about? Thieves, looters? Yes it's one shot. With a recurve. Twenty yards between the shoulders. I've seen 180 yard head shots with a crossbow and scope. If theirs a height advantage they won't come near you unless it's to burn what you're in down to the ground. They might not even do that if you have something they want.
Yeah, crossbows, compounds, bear spray, nightsticks, etc. Doesn't every edge count? The point of having weapons is to protect what you have, no?
If you're so disdainful about alternative methods to self defense and hunting, then I'd hate to see you when the RCMP kick down your door.
Yes i'm talking looters.. and when you drop one of em they will either (as you said) burn you out or run like .. anyhow.. As far as when the "cops" show up.. Do you really think they will leave you with a bow or anything that could be used against them. BTW.. yes i believe everyone should own a bow.. My biggest problem with them is carry them.. big bulky.. yes quiet.. but other wise horrible.. People say they are multi use weapons.. when ya run out of arrows (most folks only have 20 (if that) are you going to ask for a time out?

Yeah man it's pretty crazy. I myself have a 45 pound take down re-curve. I am in favour of simplicity. A bow isn't anything unless you practice. I tried to join the archery range in my city, I wanted to shoot 200-300 arrows a night and just giver, go pro and stuff. I appreciate the training for sure. But I couldn't join one in time, unless I want to travel like a couple hours a day to another.
They wouldn't like you having a bow, but they might not be looking at your place if you don't got a PAL. As it stands I lent my bow to a buddy of mine. At least he has a farm to train on.
EDIT- i actually managed to rig my bug out bag(if you can call it that) with a place for bow and arrows, it worked great. But again, the problem of deployment of the weapon, and you're half right.
That said, theirs only one way into my apartment and that's up a fire escape. First you have to climb a 12-14 foot high gate, cross the rooftop and climb the fire escape, so you can see why a bow would work good for me against looters. Traveling is a whole other animal.

Every persons situation is different.. Sounds like a bow works for you.. for me not so much if i bug in.. I can see 200 yards one way.. my driveway is 100 yards long.. my best bet is mid range and into 50 yards..
BTW for all you out there with a bow.. make sure to have spare strings. This reminds me.. i should pick up another dozer shafts.. I seem to damage two or three a year while hunting..
