I agree that we have indeed made even the concept of Christmas a bad one. But then you can change this in your own way just by how you teach your children to view Christmas. I used to protest against the wife's religious view that Christmas was another concocted and manipulated holiday as I watched my kids envy those who were receiving gifts at this designated time. Therefore I made sure that they too received something even if small to fill that gap. But the wife made sure that the kids understood the message behind these holidays and read scriptures to show they indeed had nothing to do with Christ. She had her ways and I had mine....
But the main point I'd like to stress is that I've seen alot of folks buy things for their kids out of love while knowing they were overextending their credit and ignoring the flashing neon signs their brain was producing, all in the name of what we made Christmas into. I'm sure that many of you reading this has also done or experienced others do this same thing.....
Greed is often the weapon used to destroy these bonds and "Conscience" is the volume control that many often turn down so greed can take a better hold. I think this is what Jesus was pissed about! Trying to profit from even those in prayer... as this was to be such a humble time and others even tried to put a price tag on that!
A better point is to maybe instead reawaken the family ties and renew the bonds of promise to remain close throughout life. To teach children that family are those that you can truly trust to help each other through any event that life throws at them. I state this as I see the ties that once bound me to my siblings have failed over the years and so I hope to prevent that from occurring with my own children.

Merry Christmas, now to do my part to not let the terrorists win...I will go shopping...20 points to who can remember the greatest mind of this century who lead through the darkest hour with that inspiring thought .
Maybe I can find a book "how many men you need in a group" cause we all have to many men, and I cant figure out how many to cut back too....if only I could find a book on the topic.
