Would things have been different if Alberta had had a provincial police like those found in Ont. and Que.? Being from Alberta I don't know very much about the provincial police charters and the like. I'm guessing that they have suffered an equal amount of scandal over their tenure?

To get an idea of the "effectiveness" of the OPP (Ontario) Google "Douglas Creek" and the OPP. You will learn about the politically and racially directed policing of this ongoing issue. I have little faith in police forces in this country being "arms length" from the politicians.

RCMP did not just take the "hundreds of guns left in plain view" (ridiculous). If you think residents of High River are mad now, just wait till they find out the truth.

You know things aren't right when the government tells you "it's for your own good".

Maybe related, Probobly unrelated...

I was just at shooters edge to pick up some reloading components (primers and powder) and was asked for proof of address, as well as my PAL. I've never been asked for that before. When I asked the clerk why he needed that info he said that it was the law. I courteously explained to him that it is in fact NOT required info for those components, he insisted t was. After speaking to the store manager he explained to me that they have been asked by the CFO to ask for a PAL when a person buys reloading components. We do nt have to provide it legally, but more often then my people do provide them. The name and address is however required by law.

So now they are finding out who's making their own ammo, not just who's buying it. I really dislike having my info on a computer file somewhere, and I'm sure the residents of high river are feeling that invasion 100 fold.

Stay strong down there everyone. Protect yor rights while we still have them.

See you all after.

Being asked by the CFO (directed as they are not given a choice) does not mean it's required by law.It just means that the CFO has thought up some new lunacy to hit gun owners with.

I was on the phone with the CFO yesterday and was surprised by the misinformation they gave me. They are making up their own rules now.

I was also in TSE the day before yesterday buying some magazines and the person behind the counter asked for my PAL. I'm a regular there and another guy who knows me quickly jumped in and said it was ok.

It should have been okay since you don't need a PAL to buy parts.

Hey Buggie;what do you mean by-So now they are finding out who's making their own ammo, not just who's buying it-I have never been told I had to produce ID or my PAL before I could get my ammo. When I get asked I just reply-paying cash. That is in every store in Edmonton.I just bought some 2 days ago in Cdn.Tire.No request.I suggest the next time you get asked; ask the clerk to produce the law, memo, company directive or whatever document has directed them to make this request. The PAL is for firearm purchase.Unless things have changed, stand up for your rights and mine too brother.Get the name and number for the CFO who is making up these bogus rules and give it to your MP and MLA and file a complaint with the privacy commissioner#410 9925 109stnw Edm,Ab,T5K 2J8.If we get complacent we lose it.

If you can't get the info for the CFO report the store and employee and tell them you are going to.That might change their mind.

A PAL is legally required for the purchase of ammunition in Canada and you are legally required to produce it on demand for that purpose. IF the retail outlets you deal with don't require you to show yours then good on you... but legally you ARE required to have one.

you are legally required to produce it for purchasing ammunition, not reloading componants (including primers, powder, casings, and bullets). it is illigal for you to posess the ammunition that you can make from those parts, but not illigal to have or purchase the parts themselves.

Naka the reason I posted was because this was the first time ive ever been asked to produce my PAL when buying powder and primers. And the CFO did not require them to ask for it by law, they just merley suggested that they do it and see who takes the bait. What I thought was funny was how they first told me it was the law... and then quickly backstepped when I educated them that it was not. Then it became a "suggestion" by the cfo... not a law... but they do need name and Address.

What the hell is the difference!!! they can pull up my PAL from my name and address. I told them that I have a home address, and I have a name, but am not required to procide anything other then proof of age. They sold me the componants and slunk away, but I was very disappointed in the experience.

Seriously? I buy ammunition twice a month and ALWAYS have to produce my PAL. It's the law.

And yet I have never had a problem. It must be my good looks. The one time I was asked I said"I'm paying cash"and that was that.So far I've been told that"it is the law" by a couple of posters but never by a dealer.I think I'll have to look it up to be sure.

M590... Italy have to show a pal to buy ammo... But you do not have to show it for cases, primers, powder, and actual projectile bullets. They were trying to convince me that I did

The RCMP are now being investigated for this, I myself would like to know what they thought unsecured guns were.
