This goes to show that as long as Canada/Alberta is under such strong government influence of England, the guns will eventually be gone. There is a reason Texas is really the last "truly free" gun rights state. If you do a quick google you will see that Texas basically made an agreement with the states back in the day. Texas wanted to be their own country but the states wanted to bring them in for trade and commerce. The agreement was that Texas could leave the states, if their local government so chooses, at any given time. This also gives them certain central government exemptions. Alberta may need to pull this card someday, considering the income that Alberta produces yet the lack of rights. Just my two cents

Tucker Blue,

I respectfully disagree with your thought process on that one. The Crown's influence on Canada really has nothing to do with our firearm regulations. For starter, the Queen's reign over us is practically simply symbolic. Also, all provinces compared, Quebec is the one fighting the hardest for gun control and yet, are the ones that will openly state they have nothing to do with our Monarch.

1)Canada is a constitutional monarchy. We share the Head of State with England, and 15 other Realms. This doesn't give England any leverage over Canada. No more than Canada's Head of State would have leverage over England. Canada shares common goals with several countries that were previously under the British Empire. The Commonwealth. Thats it thats all. The Crown has a significant role in Canada, and is another "check and balance" in place to make sure legislation is fair, legal and the legislature plays "fair." Aside from being our Country's executive, it plays a large role symbolically, politically and constitutionally. If you need some more info, check out: www.monarchist.ca gives some really good info. and dismisses a lot of fallacy of the Crown in Canada.

2)Every province has gone through the cycle of being a "have" province and "have not." It wasn't to long ago that Alberta was a "have not." Now it's booming. Just because a province has wealth and is putting in more than its share doesn't mean it wants to cut and run. What happens in 50 years if it is a "have not" province and say Nunavut is a "have." There will always be ups and downs. Canada provides "transfer payments" between provinces so that the boom helps defray the bust in other parts. An uncomfortable socialism that I begrudgingly admit seems to work. The point being, Alberta won't leave because it's now profitable. Thats not what we do as Canadians. Its short sighted. Quebec won't leave either...they've been a have not since there racist language/culture laws came out in the 70's. Anywhere from 16 to 40 Billion in transfer payments is given to that Province every year. They can't leave...they would lose that annual income from the rest of Canada...and they know it. As for Alberta's voice, they are heard loud and clear. The current political party in power has there base in Alberta, but thats not really what gives them a voice. Canada has provinces, not states. The legal roles of each jurisdiction are well defined. Our Federal Gov't cant dicate anything to Alberta that is within its constitutional right. Nor can Alberta dicate anything outside it's jurisdiction to the federal gov't. The rules are set out, everyone has to play by them.

3)I've heard lots of great things about Texas from snow birds that have gone down for the winter. I gotta visit your state!

I love my country, but sometimes I think Alberta would better off as a state or its own country

Does anybody know if all of the guns were returned or do the police still have them?
