Right now, were looking at an R3 (radio interruption) and S1 ( solar radiation). Anything at category 3 and below wont cause too much harm here on earth, but pilots, and astronaut will have problems. when we look at Geometric storms, anything over a G3 can have strong effects if pointed our way, especially if it is southern magnetic pole eruption (CME, magnetic charge). I check this site for positive identification.

For those who still like to know more about solar activity and the effect of it on earth, go to this site. It will simply explain what happens during certain events.

Also watch there 5 part TV series (on YouTube) that was on TV 4 years ago, (Why not again now? 😕 )

Just read an article in the London Free Press, By Kris Sims, called “Expert: Solar flare could wreak havoc” with a good diagram picture. The point that I would like to highlight was this passage. “The US Congress passed a bill in June 2010, to protect the power grid and nuclear power plants, which could melt down in the event of a prolonged blackout, but it was never passed by the Senate in time and died before it could come into effect. She gives good advice on prepping for emergency outcomes.

Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be at low to moderate levels for the next three days (15-17 July) as Region 1520 and Region 1521 continue to evolve.

The past few days have brought us some real solar activity, geomagnetic activity, radio blackouts, and solar radiation. I experienced some GPS issues yesterday, as I was driving, the unit would simply lose it's bearing and think I was in the middle of a field with no roads in sight. A really strong solar event will obviously render these units useless.
