I think this is briliant in its conception, but most of the rich don't even think about prepping, they don't even care. So most of the people who are prepping don't have millions or even thousands to commit to some grand scheme, whether it would work or not. From what I gather most preppers are just like me, paying bills and trying to keep ahead of the taxes, school fees, insurance and all the other loads we all carry. Most of us want to band together, but can't ,won't or are not willing to walk away from all the things that come with urban society living. We are not willing to work together because the other guy/gal might take advantage of my part of the pie (land/cabincamp/whatever).
Most people are afraid to commit even $100 bucks to anything that somebody else has access too or might in some way control. We live in fear and all we want to do is have community and trust. So we all keep plodding along doing the same thing, making the same plans, it's to bad our society has made us this way.
This part of the reality of our society bothers me more than anything else, that we can't trust our neighbor.
anyway I got a bit off my point but I think you might understand, I wish us all luck and hopefully the growth of trust

I'd be happy to invest in a co-op. There has to be at least 3 people to form one, by the standards of the credit union I belong to. No one person should be able to withdraw money from it. This will help to protect everyone involved. Plus a charter would have to be signed by all.
I think this idea is a great one, a small village where everyone has the same lifestyle in common.. I would like to be apart of it ... is there anyone on van island thinking this???
I would consider it , I have a strong homesteading/ permaculture focus and would relocate out of the fraser valley back to the island where I was raised . It does not even have to be a strata or a cooperative , people could own their own titles in proximity to one town or area, or it could be a mixed combination of those for differing people wanting to live in proximity and work cooperatively on some levels . I tend to think cooperatives can get problematic when people do not have their own stake in it and that owning individually might be the cleaner way to go.
So Heres a question ... have any of you considered a "Trapline" ... As far as I know you can make improvements, like cabins, you can harvest from the land, they just prefer you don't live there all year round as far as I know. A trapline is usually several sections of land, a group of people can be on title for one line, harvesting fur, etc.
Currently I am aware of 3 different lines for sale, there are more but these 3 are all under 30K each, 2 are in BC, 1in AB but it is very remote.
I'm just wondering because it is one of the ways I know to get your hands on a pretty big chunk of land at an in expensive amount.

Albertaborn, I think it is an idea worth considering for people who are aiming for a climate conducive to trapping .
This is more in favour with my thinking , year round growing season for food crops and animal fodder, less calories be it food or fuel going into heating . Like minded people.

Actually I was not thinking of a Trapping only scenario...
You can have garden plots, you can build cabins, fence off areas to hold horses, raise poultry, or sheep/goats.
You can have multiple owners on a title, you can be on it months at a time, its Crown land that you get a working title to, as long as some of the owners are actually harvesting fur, recording and selling it, then you can come and go as you please, as long as you have part ownership. I know because I grew up in the bush, and lived many years on a trapline.
1 of the lines I was looking at recently was 113 sections in size ... theres 640 acres to a section ... thats over 72000 acres.
Ownership of that line sold for 10K.
I like all thriving village concepts and when I think of eco communities I think of "Damanhur" which is recognized as a world heritage site, I have a strong friendship with a member/leader there.
I spent some time trying to form a village, I had a location, a plan and the drive to do it ... but all the response I ever got was from people who didn't have a clue about what it takes to build a community, but wanted everything handed to them, where was I going to house them, how would I feed them, could they just come live there with their family, they really couldn't afford anything, but were willing to work hard, but not actually contribute anything, other than maybe some labour. So I gave up on sharing this project and idea, I deleted as many of My posts on it as I could and removed the plan from every internet site I had placed it on.
Me I just went and followed my plan myself, bought land and a home, dropped some Seacans there, bought another piece, I am developing as a secondary BOL and home.
I decided to do it just my spouse and I, because I don't do pipe dreams, but every once in a while I post an idea just to see the feedback.
I'm not looking to pick a fight or piss anyone off, with this post, I just tend to say what I think and I can personally live with that.

Albertaborn - unfortunately I have to agree with you. Everyone I have ever approached about prepping said if the SHTF they'll just come up to my place...NOT!!!! First they wouldn't even make it to where I live and I will have my immediate family there and no room for anyone else. Most people just want hand outs and are not prepared to do any of the work or do a lot of talking but no walking.
Holy cr@p !
I never knew a trap line could be so vast, albertaborn.
Plus, 72 000 acres for 10k$. That is so cheap.
You say, "you can be on it months at a time" ... "as long as some of the owners are actually harvesting fur" .
I still say this is an awesome opportunity.
Now comes the dreaded question:
How far north is it?
=============================================
Is what you say worth at least a Canadian nickel now?
Cause two cents ain't worth squat anymore !
----
Self-sufficient is good. Co-efficient is better.
=============================================
That particular line was very far north, but there was another one that was listed fairly cheap that was very near Revelstoke from what I can tell it was about half as big as the one I mentioned and it was a bit more expensive $13 K. But almost every trapline I have ever seen was vast in area, the one I grew up on was 57 sections (36480 acres) We had a 1 bedroom Main cabin/house, 3smaller line cabins, some sleep over leanto's, we had horses, grew a big garden, raised some chickens, occasionally had pigs. we hunted and fished as we wanted, but still always had or proper licenses.
There are often lines that come up, but many are asking 6 digits for them.. Traplines don't come up every day but they do come up.
My biggest point is people are always saying they want this,(villages/communities) but throw something out that is perfectly viable and most will find every excuse in the world why it won't work, they won't look at how to make it work, or actually be willing to put an effort into making it work.
There are companies like "Dignam" that sell acreages for down payments of $5-10K and then carry the mortgage, you make them payments usually over a 5 year period and then you own it. Most of the acreages are small, and are a bit remote but you can start building on them and when their paid off you can move on to them permanent. How do I know it works .... I bought a 56 acre package a few years back for $60K, within a 1 hour drive of 2 cities.

Right now there is a line listed in the Bella Coola Area for $50 K ... I think that a bit much but that kind of depends on the improvements.
I re checked and that one near Revelstoke was listed for $12 K, there was also 1 listed in the Lakes district PG / Burns lake I think for $30 K I see the ads are still posted but a couple weeks old, so Just search Kijiji .... Trapline ... Real estate ... BC and or the same in Alberta. Thats the best place I have found to get them, but they do go quick so search often and be ready to pounce.
