up Island to Parksville

What, you mean you're not going over to Tofino? After all that driving coast to coast LOL. 😆
Congratulations on such an 'ultimate' road trip. A dream come true for many.
And thank you for posting continual updates on your adventures.

Thanks PrepHer!!

If we saw EVERYTHING this year we would have no reason to look next year!! 🙂

Thanks for the suggestion. This has been quite the adventure.

Mountainman.

JAB,

One of the other points we have learned, get a vehicle compatible battery charger so you can recharge your AA & AAA batteries each day while you are driving. We use a great compact LED carbiner light unit from Energizer that works great in the tent and we recharge the batteries during the days after we get dim light at night.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

Great idea MM. Thanks for sharing. I am glad to hear you are doing so well even with the inpromtu mechanical adventures...LOL At least you have the skills and resources to get going again. All a part of being self reliant. Everything I have takes AA batteries except my cellphone which has it's own charger. I learned long ago the value of simplicity...LOL. Be safe and keep the faith.

JAB

Update 14 August 2012 - Victoria, BC

Well, we have made it to the otherside of the country. Today we will go visit Victoria and pick-up my books from the printers. Those at the 4th Alberta Meeting I will have some books in my possession.

Tonight we will move up Island and find a place to camp. Last night was a great time at my Aunt & Uncle's place.

I will update more soon.

Currently passing through Ladysmith, BC.

Last night was at Cowichan River Provincial Park. A nice campground nestled in the big trees of the Island.

Moving up Island. We will be having dinner with friends in Parksville, BC. Now we off to explore more of the Island.

Update 16 August 2012

Morning,

Waiting for the ferry at Departure Bay, BC heading to Horseshoe Bay, BC. Then Hwy#99 to Squamish - Pemberton then to Cache Creek. This will be an exciting travel day. We should end our day East of Kamloops, BC. Tomorrow we will be home!

Last night we camped at Englishman River Falls Provincial Park. Another great campsite nestled below huge trees. 🙂 The largest detractor of BC Parks is the continued use of pit toilet/outhouses, quickly followed by the camping pads being contructed of compacted gravel - fine for campers, motorhomes and RV trailers but it really sucks for those of us who continue to camp in tents.

I will update again soon.

Evening,

Update 16 August 2012 - East of Kamloops, BC

WOW! What a day. Started in the hills near Parksville, BC, then a ferry ride to Horseshoe Bay, BC, Hwy#99 all the way to Cache Creek via Whistler and Pemberton. Before rolling through Kamloops.

For those Preppers in the Greater Vancouver Area who have no idea where to run, you may want to invest one day and drive from your house up Hwy#99 to Whistler, Pemberton, Lillooet and then return home via Hwy#1 and the Fraser Canyon. This drive opened my eyes to what the country up there looks like. And it is awesome. To the naysayers, please just bite your lip and refrain from comment or rebuttal. Those who do not have an area scouted out must have some place to start.

Our trip is drawing to an end, and it has been worth every minute. Everyone should, once in their lifetime, take a cross-Canada roadtrip as a family unit. Just my opinion of course.

I will update where and when I can.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

Update 17 August 2012

Morning,

About to start the final leg of this epic cross-Canada journey. In short order, we will fuel up for the last time in BC, probably in Revelstoke before the push into Alberta.

I will send the final post from home.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

Update 18 August 2012

Thank you One & All for your interest in our adventure. We are home now, we arrived last night. We logged 19,745 km's and visited 10 Provinces. We had two mechanical issues and replaced the starter in Nova Scotia and replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter in BC.

This will end my updates. Please send me a PM if you have any questions. And before you ask, no I do not know how much this trip cost but for the sake of my son it was worth it for his education. He will have more firsthand knowledge of his country than most of his classmates or teachers. Get off the couch and see your world, it may not be here forever!! 🙂

That's All Folks,

Mountainman.

Fuel Summary:

The trip was 19,745.2 km's from start to end. We used 2703.064 litre's of fuel. I found a fuel economy calculator online from New Zealand I believe. The numbers crunched out as: 20.643 Miles per Gallon (not sure which gallon Imp or US), 13.69 litre's per 100 km, or 7.305 km's per litre. Now my old Tahoe started this trip with over 252,000 km's and ended with over 270,000 km's. Almost 21 miles per gallon with a 14 year old high mileage Tahoe, not bad.
