I was reading in my local paper High River AB, and a page in the paper caught my eye...[ looking back in time ].....It is about times on the prairies and the fear of a Metie attack Du to Louis Riel returning to North Saskatchewan after living in exile in the U.S..I would like to re wright and share with you a piece from an 11 year old girls diary now at the Highwood museum.....
On April 10th 1885 she wrote;
the home guard take turns watching out on the ridge for signs of Indians coming and have material to light a warning fire.
We girls are supposed to stay close to home but we have a place in the woods picked out to hide in case of emergency. Each night the horses are left with harness on, except bridles, and the wagon hauled close to the house.... in case we have to start for Calgary in a hurray.
Kinda sounds like they were prepping in the event they had to fight for there lives or leave in one helluva hurray, Du to no fault of there own......
So next time some one says those prepper's are crazy, Just smile and remember were not the first to do this....
Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...
Thanks for sharing 😀
Naw...we are not crazy...lol...we are just prepared! Wish I had a horse and wagon though...Would have liked to read that newspaper article (any chance you saved it?)
As a Metis, I resemble that post. 😉
Needs must when the devil drives.
