Hi Naka - it always helps when you add your general location to your profile so people will think - HEY that person lives near me and of course the best way to get a meeting is to host it yourself.

I was just thinking the same thing... If we don't know where you are, we can't invite you 😳
We had a spring meeting in Calgary without about 30 people showing up from across the south end of the province. Some of us have discussed a possible Fall meeting but the floods have impacted several members and so we never got to the planning stage yet this summer.

Is there anyone here who does "fit in?" Looks like an almost perfect score for those who feel they don't.

I can blend in, and fit in, when I want to.. Do I feel like I fit in.. depends on where and what.. As for life, its so flexable, I fit where I am, I fit where I live, my folks raised all of us to fit in (we moved a lot) and at the same time, not worry about it..

So I guess I will go with this, do I choose to fit in, not always.. Can I fit in.. most of the time, I can..

I like this reply, farmgal. I too can look like I fit in and even genuinely do so when I want/have to. But I know that although I appear very mainstream on the surface, I am not even close. My original post came from feeling in particular that I don't fit in on my street and I have been having issues with my next door neighbour. I am moving though, three blocks away, but way better in terms of space, freedom to garden/be self-sustainable, and I get to leave behind the difficult neighbours, which is an added bonus. I also moved a lot, and yes, that does help one learn to fit in in different environments. And, overall, I like not fitting in for the most part. I don't like mainstream anything. I just need to find more likeminded people to not fit in with 😛

In the last few months since being back at work I have found I now kind of fit in....what a surprise 😯

When I first went off on sick leave almost 2 years ago there was only one other person that did any canning or food gardening. It has really changed. I have discovered several of my co-workers are now starting to prep and those that aren't prepping are now starting to ask canning, dehydrating and gardening questions. I have not had one person make a nasty comment about my "interests" since being back and I don't think it is because they are worried that they will offend me.

I no longer hide my lunch because of fear of being made fun of. Now I get positive comments or questions - did you really can that soup, what is that you are eating it looks good. When working on a few new fruit chip recipes I took in extras for people to try & give me their thoughts. All of which were positive and helpful.

I am starting to feel like less of a "freak" but I am not sure that I like being "more normal" 😆

Well my "freaky" friend - I like you just the way you are - which is weird like me 🙂 We are a whole group of weird and wonderful canners and preservers and preppers!

What's the point being ordinary? Anyone can be ordinary. I like dancing to the beat of my own drum and I tell my kids to do the same. Fantastic is a state of mind!

Fitting in when necessary; my job requires a certain persona. So far, in over a decade of working in close quarters with hundreds of others, finally found ONE like - minded co-worker! (He started the subject, not I)

Anyone wants to discuss stuff on the island, pm me.

Fwiw, my kids are 'awake', and because of that find most of their peers too shallow. They're facing the same things we are.
