This is disturbing news. A health care worker getting infected while taking care of an ebola patient in a western european hospital while following internationally recognized precautions. I hope it's just a case of the nurse being tired and getting sloppy and it's going to be a flag for everybody involved that this is serious shtuff.
That article states
"US President Barack Obama has said the White House is considering extra screening at US airports for people arriving from the worst-affected countries in West Africa."
Well DuH .. !
Others quickly pointed out that, with an incubation period of anywhere from 8-21 days, there's still a high chance you'll be passing someone through simply because the virus hasn't surfaced yet. This is exactly what happened with the current patient in Texas.
Is this crazy, or the real chess game being played behind the scenes....

Who knew you only needed Vitamin C and problem solved?

Whoa, there cowboy, are we talking of a conspiracy? 😯 😆
I for one wouldn't be surprised as I have little faith in such things. When the US sends 4000 troops to the infected regions and Russia sends a contingent of doctors instead, I again wonder who is running the show. I'm betting folks are now buying up every vitamin because of that news clip and I somehow have a craving for orange juice as I type this.... 😮 😎
Then why not just quarantine everyone for at least 21 days either before they can leave infected areas,
or when they arrive quarantine everyone upon arrival
I came across this guy who will explain his interpretation from Canada's Health Agency website https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k38ttMBU0UE
Okay, he has a really scarey take on Ebola and it's potential...
so I'm going to post an opposing view to get you to relax somewhat with an American perspective https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QIWZ7HxuHc
(I'm sorry, I just hadta do it!)

My head went sideways at that one too. Unless the troops are some sort of highly trained group of medical experts, I feel like sending non-medical personnel into this situation could lead to 4000 more chances for Ebola to hit North America.

That quite informative, but do you note that if all they proclaim is true, then all those police and aids workers who are wearing all the protective clothing and sucked thru air filters appear to be simply overdressed! Someone should tell them it is very hard to catch Ebola! (why doesn't someone point these details out before they go to print?)

Opps, you did it again 🙂

<<In response to Liberia's appeal to the States, made last week, Obama said the US government now plans to establish a military command center in the Liberian capital of Monrovia, to coordinate the aid operation in the infected region. It also aims to build 17 treatment centers and train thousands of healthcare workers, US officials told reporters.
Russia’s consumer watchdog Rospotrbnadzor has dispatched a mobile laboratory to Guinea to help contain the Ebola in response to a direct request from Guinea’s government. >>
http://news.yahoo.com/obama-announce-major-ebola-effort-043320604.html
<<<Most of the US effort, which will draw heavily on its military medical corps, will be concentrated in impoverished Liberia -- the worst hit nation -- with plans to build 17 Ebola treatment centres with 100 beds in each.
>>>
<<<Gen. David Rodriguez, head of U.S. Africa Command, said the U.S. has sent three mobile labs to Liberia, each staffed by three to four military service members who will wear head-to-toe protection as a safeguard against accidental infection. Four more labs have been requested, and the Defense Department is looking to fill that need, Gen. Rodriguez said.
“These mobile labs are very, very important, because, as you can imagine, some people have malaria, some people have the flu, and it’s really important to find out who you have to treat and who you don’t,” Gen. Rodriguez said.>>>
So the russians are sending 1 lab, US Army is sending 3 plus they are going to build treatment centers and train thousands of local health care workers and send supplys. Just some minor details

Knuckle,
I dont want to make light of the Ebola crisis. So in no way take it like that. But when we consider the thousands of aid workers involved and the actual numbers contracting the virus from developed countries it is relatively a small number. That being said, one is to many.... The article isn't about dismissing Ebola. They are quite up front about the numbers, and the infection rate this outbreak vs. the 33 some odd times its occurred before. I think they are just taking the wind out of the sails of the media hype, and general paranoia on the matter and trying to add some reason by educating us.
Some references I found worth reading:

What would be nice to know, and if anyone can find a reliable source I would appreciate it...is "if" Ebola eventually finds its way to North America and spreads....what infection control measures can we as just normal non health care professionals take to protect ourselves? The virus is pretty big relatively speaking...almost 14 microns....and if its transmitted by bodily secretions then North American basic Hygiene would probably be a big bonus and largely mitigate the issue....
But...is there a report, or easy reference or something out there that would tell people like me: "An N-95 mask will work, wear gloves, and wash hands after touching any suspected surface, if someone coughs on you with a mask but your eyes are not covered it can/can't be transmitted that way, put a LVL so and so filter on your furnace, etc." Something nice and easy for the non health care professionals.
Reported on the CBC yesterday that caught my eye...and that maybe we are not as "clean" as we should be:

The website I posted here was more of a tongue in cheek joke at the stuff you can find on the web....there isn't a shred of evidence to it, nor any evidence that Vitamin C will protect you against the Ebola virus. 🙂

WOW!
Never have I seen such a load of unsupported, alarmist manure!
Lots of allegations and not one offering of supporting fact!

I should apologize that I really haven't taken much time to research this subject other than post that which I come across while researching other threads. I will defend my laxidaisy attitude with the reasoning that this thread already has persons on both sides and objective research being presented for both the pros and cons of this subject. I'm just sorta along for the ride.... This is what is needed for a good debate and this is what this thread holds. GOOD SHOW ALL!
I do like how TheCrownsOwn found more data to back up his perspective as I haven't looked hard and have just used mostly basic logic to this point. Also prom found more explaining that the US is more committed too than others have mentioned. I admit now that I likely wouldn't have even tried as I've lost faith in the US interventions and thus my bias would have interfered. (yet my paranoia keeps me wondering of other hidden agendas still 😀 )
I agree that this is not a subject to be taken lightly. It is most likely capable of being airborne too or they wouldn't take such precautions. Now they mention that they do so because they can't know what other contagions these victims may have. That excuse can work somewhat but such measures aren't required for malaria, aids and such either. But who would want to take a chance and go without protective gear in a place where many are dying. And then the point that the Canadian website seems to contradict the others. Why? And TheCrownsOwn found other data on the same website showing the other perspective too(sorta). 😕
This is too new yet to figure out all the hype we are presently receiving about Ebola. But preparing is always better than doing nothing. I agree too that adding to the hype can have the ripple effect which can't be predicted as to it's effects either until the damage is done. So I agree also that many should maybe take a breath and find that happy medium on this subject while remaining cautious just the same.
