Thanks, good prep tip.For zombies, will I still need headshots or is center mass OK?

As delicious and nutritious as gold and silver are, I'm opting to buy seeds.

Now where is the like button when you want it 😀
For silver, I have close to 100 -1oz pieces, and about a pound of old silver coins (junk silver, 80%). It would be easier to spend silver than gold, besides, I dont like flashing gold about, it might cause a fever. 😈

For the record, Canadian silver coins (dimes, quarters, fiddy-cent pieces, and silver dollars) are those minted in 1967 and earlier, with some 1968 coins silver and the rest clad. The silver content is supposed to be 80% for Canadian coins, but actual content is usually around 76-78%. American pre-1965 coins of the same denomination are 90% silver. If you're buying these as an investment, keep in mind that high-volume suppliers to silver processers generally get about 85-88% of the silver value because silver refining is more expensive per ounce than gold.
So count them as 80%.

I've got some silver maples too - just in case... - although I don't really believe it will be worth much for bartering if some *serious* SHTF.
After all - think about it! - why were silver and gold so valuable back in the day? Because they were equivalent to *money*. How much money is made of the precious metals nowadays? None.
Sure, their prices keep growing (mostly) - but only because they are valuable resources for all sorts of specialized industries. SHTF, industry crumples down - who'll need precious metals then? Jewellery can then be made of seashells as well...
So, what I think will *really* be of ultimate value in the natural barter market: the items that are really needed in the primitive society susceptible to anarchy: ammo (lots of it!), weapons, medications.
Food too, of course - that will always be the case - but it can be grown (eventually), so it's a renewable resource. Ammo and medications, though... Not so much - especially with non-existent industry.
And - mind you, shelf life for those is (on average) much longer than of food items.
Thoughts?
Silver will always have value, as it always has had in the past. Things that shine and glitter will always be valued. Besides silver can also be used for solder when making drinking and storage containers. AND silver has always been the poor mans gold. 50 silver=1 gold.

That's exactly the postulate I'm questioning 😉

Hmm. Not sure this will have any impact on its bartering value...
AND silver has always been the poor mans gold. 50 silver=1 gold.
No arguing on that.
If only the gold were of any value after TSHTF... Other than sentimental.
I mean, really, gold (and its "poor man's substitue" silver) were the money (or its equivalents) throughout most of the recorded human history. As such, there were the symbol of wealth and power. Not so any more...
I believe today powerful weapons (and powerful groups of people wielding them) replaced gold and silver in this capacity.
Money is needed to achieve and maintain those, true - but with the inevitable collapse of any financial system as we know it, barter resources will be evaluated by their usefulness (and being hard to find).
Gold and silver may be relatively hard to find, true - but are they so useful? Meh... And remember: they're not money any more. That's the most important difference from the past.
Of course, being my personal opinions based solely on my understanding of the current economy and human nature, this all may be just a big pile of BS 😆
We've missed most of the boom in Gold.....if you had bought into gold a few years ago (even more than that....as it tanked in the late 80's and if you bought then when the world was "on the brink" too) you would be retired by now. Gold is historically a great and stable investment. Moreso long term.
but...like everything else it goes in cycles. And with gold now...it's rise is slowing. Still valuable though no doubt.
Silver is overvalued. Way overvalued. In reality for the quantities out there, it should be priced slightly more than copper. As that is what we should be really using it for. wiring. My two cents...silver is gonna slowly drop in value to a more realistic price in the next 10-20 years. It has to. It's just artificially high from a historical sense. There is no reason this metal should be priced so high for the quantities and availability of it.
I don't think we are in a code "black." I think we are finally as a society getting a dose of reality that we are not "entitled" to anything and that the government has no money of it's own. It takes from the popluation and redistributes it. Greece and spain have learned the hard way.....several other countries should take heed including the US now and make the tough choices to make sure they won't go down that same path.....get rid of the defecit...and start reducing your debt.
If anything I take this most recent recession as a sign of hope. Not that the world is going to collapse economically. What makes me feel safe...is the fact that finally people are talking about debt reduction, sustainability, and proper foundations for a nation. Finally....
If we don't get out of the sense of entitlement and dependancy on a welfare state...then yes....i will be scared.

People, most of you are missing the point on currency, Antsy voted for Aluminum, I could make the same case for Magnesium, which is .62 of the weight. and can be used in making fire and flares. Nickel @7.50/lb is worth 2x as much as Copper. Silver has taken a nose dive to $27 oz. (good time to buy). It doesn't matter what form of currency that use plan to use (except paper), it will depend on supply and demand, or it will be both currency and barter. "How much sausage do you want for that rope, well then how about this gold ring...." IT DON'T MATTER.
