Pass__creek__prepper, a very good knife company that gets over looked alot is DH Russel. They have numerous fixed blade knifes in stainless and carbon steel. I have their #3 and can personally say that it is a great all round knife, it has field dressed deer, cut kindling, prepped veggies for dinner and everything in-between. They also supplied the Canadian Forces for a time.

I second that...DH Russel (I have my fathers knife) is a great made (NS) knife...very good as a hunting choice.

Thanks for the info Seamus. DH Russel Knives are not a manufacturer that I had considered. The #R3SAD Army Knife seems like one to consider and for under $50 it is well priced.
Can I suggest a Spyderco Tenacious or a Mora Triflex. This is a VERY affordable entry into the 'better' knife realm. You should be able to score either for under $40 on eBay. I've got 2 and they are among my most favourite knives. I have other more expensive blades but the Tenacious and Mora are hard values to beat. Search them in Youtube and you will be blown away by all the knife fanatics that praise them.
