Food recall notices happen often. And by the time it hits the news cycle it maybe a day or more later, if reported at all. (They simply can't report all of them..its not practical.)
If you're interested in getting notifications real time as the CFIA puts them out, you can sign up for email or text notifications:
By email:
https://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/util/listserv/listsube.shtml?foodrecalls_rappelsaliments
By phone (app):
https://www.canada.ca/en/services/health/stay-connected/recalls-safety-alerts-mobile-application.html
If you've purchased something, or heading to a store where it may not have been pulled from the shelves yet...the real time notifications give you that added layer of information.
