Stopped at Costco yesterday for gas at 2:30p. No line up for a change. Popped in to grab kitty litter. Propane refills were up a dollar. Toilet paper was sold out. They had a skid of 4 paks 500ml isopro alcohol. Beside it was a skid of various sizes/types exam gloves. No one around it and only saw a few carts with those items. Saw one girl wearing a surgical mask. Also they now swab your cart handle down with a lysol wipe when you enter.
Parking was not too bad. Now this past Sunday we stopped in to get litter and we had never seen it that busy before.
I was at the stores today, everything looks ok. Walmart had a sale on tuna 67 cents per can, and no limit on how many you can buy. 4 flats of 24 in each came home with me, 96 cans total.
That's a lot of Tuna sandwiches.

Seeing in the news this morning that Australia and some US retailers are starting to limit purchases of certain products to 1-2 per customer. Wonder if there will be some “anti hoarding policies” at some point.
Of course, I see a big difference between mass purchase in time of crisis (hoarding), and stocking up in normal times just in case (preparedness).
Hit a great pasta sale this past week as well as canned milk.. I have active milking sheep right now but it never hurts to have a flat of extra canned milk around.. I normally share milk with the lambs, only taking one milking per day till they are weaned.. I might keep them on longer as a share milk so that if I got sick, I could just put the lambs on full time and not need to milk at all..

Local story said that that some drug stores put it behind the counter and says , please ask and only gives out 2 per sale so that more can have them..
I am cranky at many of the popular homemade ones.. because they seem to be coming from the EO company's that are recommending a crazy amount of drops of this or drop of that.. none of it is needed, you just need the two big ones, which is frugal and cheap but start adding in 20 to 40 plus drops of E0's and the price goes crazy high.. I am cranky at the pushing sales.
I saw a herbal company quote a price on a few things and went WHAT THE BLEEP.. that is around 100 times more in cost.. on the other hand, I have had to turn down sales for my own elderberry and herbs.. Soap I can make extra and sell, salves sure.. but my own grown, and saved herb supply that can not be replaced until spring, summer or in some cases till sept or oct.. sorry.. no.. I am not sell any of it now.

I have the feeling there’s going to be a temporary lull. Government said “prepare” and folks heeded the warning. Average Joes saw the chaos and decided not to bother.
So now, the stores have time to catch up on restocking basics. This is the time to go. Next hysteria may be worth than the last.
Kind of agree about possible lull, there were those who went out last weekend and bought 48 cans of soup, bleach... but who may think they are good, OR go and add to the list. Then there will be the late to party types who have mulled it over all week and figure they need to take the plunge. Be fun to see or hear what happens in the stores this weekend. Local wall art is all stocked up with pallets of soup, pasta... all visible in CENTER isles when you walk in
Happy to report that situation looks normal-ish at my local WallyWorld and Shoppers Drugmart. Considering the rail blockades (funny, it’s no longer discussed in the news...) and the pandemic panic buys, the shelves were decently stocked for a Friday PM. Of course, no masks or hand sanitizer, but I didn’t need any (was just curious so went to check).
A few staples were either gone or the picking were slims, but this may be a combination of shortages and unplanned discount/sales. For example, the Boyardees were on sale for $1.00 so the shelves looked pretty bare. Pasta packages were also on sale for $1 each and the shelves were well stocked so I picked up 4. Tuna and canned meat were available too despite being on sale as well, I picked up 3 cans of flaked ham (yummy sandwiches when mixed with mayo and sweet relish on toasted bread...).
No larger packages of powdered milk, but they had about a doze 1Kg ish bags.
I needed some scouring pads and had a look at cleaning solutions and all Lysol wipes and likes were gone, same with the spray bottles of any sanitizer. I took a few minutes to browse and found it interesting that some brand names had different marketing than the store brand.
For example, Pinesol’s label state “Kills 99.9% of viruses and germs”. The Walmart brand right next to it only stated “kills 99.9% of germs”.
Needed to do a few things in my local closest small town but the one that also has my Canadian tire and such.. (but no Walmart) and while there was no gloves, masks or hand.. everything else was there.. no empty shelves, busy day but no one was seen to stock up.. asked the regular staffer and they said.. nope.. like a 3 day run and then everyone settled..
Said no one got everything they ordered but they did get some of most things in smaller lots to put back on the shelf.. that made me happy to see on the shelves. Could even buy wipes and stuff, heck they even had the three packs on sale today for 4 dollars off, I snagged 3 more packs for a total of 9 more of the big tubs..
They are good for one to be packed in for hubby at work for wiping things down himself rather then trusting the cleaners etc.

Wonder what those items were that couldn’t be obtained?
Good to see shelves still in decent shape gives people a chance to continue stocking up. Don’t forget, many are still feeling the effects of maxed credit cards from Christmas
Any info on decreased port, train.. activity?
Hand sanitizer, Lysol products and thermometers are impossible to find around here. People are starting to buy aloe and alcohol.
TP and paper towel was looking low.

I have no first hand info on reduced port/train activity but I expect it. 2nd order effects of lock downs both in manufacturing countries and in consumer countries. Alberta is going to get hit hard ( economically ) , its going to be like 2016 all over again.

I have a friend that works in shipping and that decreased started three weeks ago, they have been getting updates on all the orders and shipments that are NOT coming..
The government just announced today in the news that many company's are now starting to feel the effects and that people are scrambling to find "other suppliers" and that would should expect issue..
DUH! ya.. ok..

Unofficially, from a friend who works with the coast guard? They have been refusing ships for 7-10 days now.
I can say the tracks have loaded trains sitting and the port yards are full.
So I’m guessing things are just all held up. No way to transport the goods fast enough to clear the backlog.
