Bush craft, Survival courses for most would be like going through school. Most would go through grade school (Lvl I, basics), A good portion would quit during or after High School (Lvl, II, intermediate). Very few would make it to, or through College. (Lvl III, Survival prep), thinking “Why should I do more I have what I need already“. The last few, will continue to upgrade their Credentials, through side courses and through experience. A very few of us, will continue learning, some consider themselves Doctors of their craft. The smarts one’s will forever be the willing student that tutor others. . One saying that I have is, “Through teaching, we learn.” This is often true, because sometimes the student often shed light upon a subject that you have never considered before. I am the perpetual student, and will forever be a “Jack of all trades”, but always will I be a willing Tutor, for those who are willing to learn. :geek:

From the postings most people ask how to prepp with little money they have. Most prepping is use logic ,talk to others preppers,do some reading special history and think ,think. If anything happen it would be very critical to use your brain. After all everybody has to make very personal and individual decisions. Everybody has different needs and different ideas. It is just like the date "Dec. 21." was hijacked by people and company's to make money.Changes are coming ? Sure. But nobody can predict with precision when or what.

Ranger that was one of my thoughts only a little bit less expensive per day

Folks...
There are some very good and decent training schools in Ontario, the rest of Canada and in the US.
1. I would never go to a school unless it was a very advanced one run by people who have been running training centres for a long time, and at a very high level for me.
2. I do believe this is a real school
3. If you search through the posts by both - Rougarou and Systema you will find that they both joined the same day within an hour of each other,
3b. you will find that one of the MODS looked up their log in IP addresses and voilà they were the same!
4. If they were officially associated with this school, why did they.. him/it join at the same time, not properly introduce themselves and put the whole
Systema system training.. and Prepper School training out there as their own, and just say, we are in business this is what we do come check us out?

5. my personal opinion is that this is Troll advertising; NOT INTERESTED NOW, or would recommend them at all, just due to this very fact.

6. No adress for the business? No full names of the teo guys who runn it?

7. I did a search, and this business isn't incorporated or registered in the province of Ontario.

Anyone can make a website these days....and like your point #5....systema....that seems to always come up every time....

You know, I actually thought of looking into it once...but the way this guy markets it here.....it's totally turned me off....I wonder if the guy who owns systema knows about this guy and what he's doing....or worse...is this the owner of that shop???

i know Dan, we were on another site together, we exchanged emails, even met for coffee once. . . he's a real person, with some real life experience, he's a good prepper, and a good guy. he's now a business operator. he was a soldier, but i don't believe he ever took a course in business admin or advertising. he's got a lot of prepping experience, and he feels he's got something worth selling. he's clearly used this site to advertise his business in a different way. i'm not sure he's done the best job at it, (as it's clearly put many people up in arms about it) but i don't think he's really been unethical either.

i'm not saying we should all go take the course, but it might be right for some people. i really don't think Dan would steal from anyone, or put them in danger, but he's offering some education into some thing that many preppers would benefit from. most of us can't go to the US and do the training with some of the big names in wilderness or urban survival. this could be something for our area. . . i personally hope he successes in his school.

I appreciate your measured response. But if what he's doing isn't unethical advertising...pretending to be other posters, etc....then what is? How do you build that trust and relationship with a teacher who starts off by pretending to be someone he isn't? 🙂

The fact he is not a registered business, which means no chance of insurance, or even WSIB at worse. I have no idea what his experience/knowledge is. Perhaps he does have a viable and marketable skill. But if this is how you run a business....as a consumer what should I expect with someone who conducts themselves in selling there business like this?

Wilderness is right. There are lots of other companies out there. Ones that are reputable, and proven in Ontario, and in Canada. Why even entertain taking a chance on an unproven company, with questionable advertising and trolling....

In the words of Kevin O'Leary from Dragon's Den.... "I"m out...with extreme prejudice!" 😀

Allen,
First of all, welcome to the forum. I believe there is a lack of good quality training courses in Canada right now, and your company certainly helps fill the void.

There has been some controversy regarding your school however, caused by two members that were engaged in some possibly shady advertising practices.
Although these two members claim to indeed be two separate people, they have used the same IP address to post from, which at minimum, puts them in the same physical location, if not the same actual computer. For the meantime, I will give these two members the benefit of the doubt.

As we have opened a section for members to promote their businesses, I invite you to do so here...

Perhaps starting over in that section would give you a fresh start here, and this thread could be deleted entirely. (it should be anyhow, as it is clearly advertising and not posted in the proper place)

Best of luck and again, welcome.

Allen,

Thanks for this info. If you are not systema and he not part of your company then I appreciate you posting and being up front. I am one of the people here who are a little more sensitive to the marketing strategy of that poster and it sounds like you got pulled into it as an innocent and unsuspecting party. If indeed you are a legit company (and by you one post it would lead me to think you are) then I offer my apology. If you go through the history that poster, it appears everything he's posts is suspect and has an alterior motive...

Thanks.

Thanks for the heads-up, Systema. I'm going to check these folks out.

FYI: In the winter of 2012-13 (shortly after all of the above "controversy" got stirred up), I attended several free workshops hosted by Allen Charron, at Angie's Outdoor, in Barrie. I found Allen to be a very sociable, knowledgeable and professional guy, with a wealth of real-world experience in combat, survival and emergency preparedness. Marketing strategies aside -- Allen, Dan and Bug-Out Canada are definitely legit.

For what it's worth, I plan to enroll in BOC's "Art of the Rifle" course in 2014.

Take good care -- and prepare to prevail! 🙂

Honestly, I had a chance to meet Allen last summer and found him to be a very down to earth, personable, and well informed individual.
Sure, we had a couple people trying to endorse the school with questionable tactics, but I believe that this had absolutely nothing to do with Allen or the school.
No doubt that Allen, as well as the others involved, run a reputable school, and based on the reviews from people that have actually attended, I recomend them highly.
