I heard on the news that an asteriod about 48 meters across will pass between the earth and the moon on Friday, February 15, 2013 @ 2:24 p.m. EST. That sounds pretty close to me!

Of interest is the meteorite that passed over Russia yesterday.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/02/15/us-russia-meteorite-idUSBRE91E05Z20130215

500 people injured. Whew!

The one going over that is getting close to us will not impact or cause any damage, but hey...frickin cool!

How do you prep for a major asteroid catastrophe....can you?

Been Reading and listening to CBC this morning on the hit, I can just imagine the shock of it for the locals but I also found it interesting that in the one interview, with a canadian that is working there, that he said, total loss of all cells as the towers all went down do to the sonic boom, I would be interested in finding out how far that happened, and wondered if the regular lines were also effected and if so, what did they turn to for communations. Do you think they moved over to sat phones for the goverment or ?? What about the local folks themselves?

FarmGal,
now that is a very good observation as well as consideration, let your hubby pat you on the back for that one!

Most injuries were from flying glass. The same kind of window film that would protect from high winds or tornado damage would have prevented a lot of those injuries. Pretty cheap insurance I think.
Pretty cool footage.

Best video I have seen so far on the Russian meteor.

My favourite comment on that video "In Soviet Russia, Space explores YOU!"

Yeah I saw another one that said "In USA you find Meteor, In Soviet Russia meteor finds you". "A meteor hits earth, it stands to reason that it hits a country with a dash cam in every car". Love some comments on the Russian videos.
