hello group,
I wanted to pick up a new pair of good quality boots and wanted to get some feed back. Any suggestions on a paticular type/brand? what would be better, hiking boots or some type of military/tactical boot? good for extreme temps?
any reviews or experiences would be appreciated........thanks
I've been using a pair of new balance hiking boots that my work bought me over a year ago. They've been my fall/winter/spring footwear. The way I destroy footwear, they've stood up pretty impressively. New balance had pretty much everything they make in wide sizes, so that's why I keep going back to them.
My problem with boots is that my feet will sweat weather they're hot or cold so, I ensure that I have some knee high cotton sock, to wick the moisture away. When I can find them, (11-13 not easy to find) to put under my woolies. When the feet are cold, than so be I.

Sorels and High Tek made in Bc
Snow Puddies. Nylon or similar material. Make a tube that you can fit your foot through and cover the tops of your boots at one end. The other end should fit snug but not tight around the top of your knee, (stretch band and Velcro works good here.). On the bottom should be a strap that goes under the arch of your boot and one that will strap just around and under your ankle. This should be sufficient n keeping the snow off your legs and out of your boots.

I've used everything mentioned above and they are all great. My total bias opinion is K Swiss, but thats my style for running/tri's and I find there footwear exceptionally light and comfortable!
I guess though my advice would be ignore the label..and try on a lot of boots. Walk in them, and be honest to yourself whether they are a comfortable fit...then start looking at the bells and whistles...water proof? insulated? light weight? etc.
Good luck.

Danners are the way to go for all year round hiking boots
They are a little expensive but mine last me 4-5 years or longer, a few sole replacements before any other problem with uppers
I also had good luck with High Teck for summer jungle boots
I have 14 years military and we lived on our feet

Thanks for the replies. Good comments and advice. ❗
Hmmm
I was used to the old Black Cadilacs, my High Tek Hikers lasted 4 years of everyday use. Maybe there is differences now or they are just not as good anymore? Maybe the Military bought the cheaper versions?
Thanks for the info, I was going to go and check them out at a local Army Surplus, but will pass on them now.
